Can't cope

Sorry for melodramatic subject line....its really not as bad as some people. DS3 (8mths) has suddenly, over the last week stopped settling for sleeps in the day. For the first time in his life we've had lots of crying, lots of grumpy baby, lots of running up and down the stairs. He fights it, so even if I take him for a walk/drive, it takes a long long time to get him to sleep.

He's just not settled again for his morning nap. It could be teeth. I think the problem is that I have a busy life with lots going on, and I rely on him sleeping well in the day so that I can function. I'd be happy him being awake more, but not awake and grizzly !!

I know people have it much harder, as generally he's napped well in the day.

Has anyone had any experience of this ? Basically I want to hear stories of people who's babies reverted back to being good day time sleepers - to give me hope !

TIA

Why don't you try to switch to one nap in a day- in the afternoon? AFAIR DD had only one nap after lunch for couple of hours at that age.

Sounds like he could be heading into the '9 month sleep regression'. If you search this site, or google it you will find info about it.

AngelDog has lots of info and links, I'm sure she'll post on here later...

Yep we had this with dd when she turned 8mo. It went on for a few days. She just would not settle, it was crap. Hence my username, it's when I first posted here!

Tbh she's never been much of a napper- she favours a short catnap rather than a long stretch most days- but I could at least put her down awake, close the door and she'd drift off by herself.

Well happy days, she now does that again (nearly 9mo now). The bad patch lasted around 5-7 days. Turns out she was coming down with a cold, or maybe it was a developmental thing, who knows.

In any case, it did go back to normal.

HTH!

ps some days I just got her out of her cot and let her skip a nap. I thought this would mess things up in the long run, but it really didn't.

Sounds like teething to 'me. DD3 did this. It's a case of gritting your teeth and getting through it.

Mine is a terrorist though- 16 months and has only slept through a handful of times. Daytime naps vary between 20 mins and an hour. Am sure it's teething.
