My dd (3.7) goes to bed at 7.30pm and wakes about 7.30am.She doesnt get out of bed just lays there talking to her toys or singing untill my dh wakes up(I work mornings) or sometimes we have to wake her up.Shes been a perfect sleeper since two weeks.Problem is naps. She used to nap every other day up till two and a half .Then till now she has one or two afternoon naps a week. She started nursery three weeks ago and I assumed she would be really tired-but she wasnt.Tried to put her down for her nap this afternoon and she sobbed for twenty minutes(yes Im mean but Ive got used to my once a week two hours peace!) Has she outgrown naps?I know shes tired because she sticks her thumb her mouth! Also she is an absolute sod and kicks off big style(generally in public) when shes not had a nap!Would appreciate any views, shes our first and only and she didnt seem to come with instructions !

Sounds like naps are over :) You could try 20 mins of "quiet time" in the lounge (

Thanks for that , think Im just going to have to chill a bit.She is only naughty when shes tired and I guess shes still only a baby really. Its encouraging to know it will get easier !!!

LOL! it will get easier, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone call a child that age a baby!! Afaik baby is up to 1 year, toddler 2 and a half ish! You have a tweenie! have fun!!

awww she is still a baby!
i reckon if you live to around 80 then 3 MUST still count as baby

OP- yes! i reckon she is ready to stop napping. it's tough when they drop that last nap isn't it?

LOL! I have 4 dcs very close together, when no 1 was 3.7 (43 months)I had a toddler who was 23 months and I was due to give birth in 3 months time! (if I've got my maths right!) So to me my 3.7 year old didn't look much like a baby!![hgrin] Its amazing how huge a toddler suddenly looks when you've got a newborn!

Shes as big as a 5 yr old and quite bright and sometimes I forget she is only 3 but as I said to her the other day when she protested when I called her baby she will always be my baby even when she is too big too sit on my knee ! Am going to try to keep her really busy during the afternoon so shes really tired at bedtime and make that sleep count! She does like to snuggle on my knee with her thumb in though!

My ds dropped his naps 6 weeks after dd was born, he was 2.4. There are times when he's really really tired, esp in the late afternoons, but he's never tired enough for a proper nap during the day.

Sounds very similar to your dd, in which case I'd say bring bedtime forward maybe half an hour. It's worked with ds. He started preschool this term and has been so shattered, he was literally begging me to take him to bed at 5.30 the other day. We also do some quiet time when he's particularly tired or he's had a busy morning/got a busy afternoon.

Thanks.Ive made bed time half an hour later to make sure she sleeps well but maybe she needs that half hour as well!Back at school this week so will see how it goes.
