My DS is nearly 11 wks old and sleeps in his moses basket in my room next to my side of the bed.

But I still panic everytime I cant hear/see him breathing. I have to admit I'm a bit of a worrier but how do you know if your baby is warm enough?

I put DS down in a sleepsuit, and tonight I also put a bodysuit on underneath as it is cold. I use a gro-egg room thermometer and use a cotton sheet with a blanket, folded in accordance with the temp guidelines,
ie; 18 degrees = folded once, so 2 layers
20 degrees = just 1 layer.

But how do I know if the bed clothes I'm putting him down in is enough?

Sorry for being a worrier but any advice xx

Feel the back of his neck. Apparently the best way to check. Don't go with the feel of his hands - they can be really quite cold but the baby is fine.

hmm no 'official' advice but with my three i put my hand on their forehead/neck to see how warm they are. i was always a poker to see if they were still breathing!

at nearly three months old you can put him in a grobag and then nothing is kicked off. if your heating is off at night i would have in our house a vest, sleepsuit and grobag on.

I found that DS woke if he was too warm or too cold, so that answered the question. He was rarely too cold, it was more likely to be too warm - and he was a winter baby. But while I totally understand the 'panicking that they're not breathing thing', they are very unlikely to just freeze silently - they would get upset and wake you if it was really too cold.

I agree....try a gro bag and also the covers can't be kicked off.
My DS is in a vest, babygro and 2.5 tog bag.He is toasty warm but his hands are like ice blocks in the morning but like someone else has said that doesn't matter.

My DD woke me up repeatedly at night when the cold weather hit until I finally cottoned on that she was cold. When I put her in a long sleeved vest (instead of short sleeved) and a fleecy sleepsuit instead of a cotton one under her grobag and put the heating on very low so that the room was consistently about 19 degrees she went back to normal again. Several of the mums from my baby group had found the same thing - lots of night waking from their babies (all around 5 months old now) with shouting and crying but not hungry - we have all put the heating on and peace has resumed!

So... Baby is warm enough unless he cries and tells you he is cold.
