Last night DS (21mths) learnt to pole vault out of his cot so we had to take to side off before he caused himself injury.

He eventually fell asleep at 9pm instead of the usual 6.30pm.

I have put a stair gate across his bedroom door and he just stands and screams at it.

Please help, any ideas of what to do he is normally really good and goes to sleep quite quickly.

Oh no, can't help, dd is still in cot (20mths) - but you've really put me off!

grobag?

oooggs · 13/09/2005 19:26

Grobags are FANTASTIC but at 20mths he unzipped it, got out of it and through it out of the cot.

He is hysterical up there. It is heartbreaking

Had the very same trouble with DS.
So in true super nanny style we just put him back to bed...over and over and over again.
He got out for the first 2/3 weeks of bieng in a big boy bed, just because he could and it was novelty.
We have now taught him that he WILL be put back to bed with minimal fuss over and over if need be.
Now he goes down and stays down at night and in the day.
Its 3,4,5,6am we need to contend with now

don't know if it'll work, but you could try bribery, ie you can go swimming tomorrow if you stay in bed etc etc? it's worked for dd tonight, who is on day 3 of big bed......or maybe you could let them have a book, so long as they stay in bed?

Grobag have just come up with a new zip-guarded one that supposedly toddlers can't get out of. Worth checking out on bumpto3...

Just got him to sleep, he was exhausted. It consisted of back rubbing and singing. Will look into the new grobags and super nanny methods from now on.

Thanks all.

Hi oooggs,
Having the same problem with dd, put her in a bed a week ago, first few nights was fine, she went straight to sleep, now it takes ages to get her to sleep. At the moment she is asleep on my bed as when i put her back in hers she screems.

wheresmyfroggy · 13/09/2005 20:31

DD1 was the same (we moved her at about 16 months) after a few days of perseverence she was jumping off my lap after her bedtime story and snuggling up to sleep no probs (she was always a brilliant sleeper too)

so hopefully there is light at the end of a very long tunnel
