What time does your 6 year old go to bed?

DD1 is 6.2 and we tend to go up to bed at about 7pm, by the time we've read etc it's normally lights out by around 7.45pm. DD2 who is 4 drops off to sleep instantly but dd1 lies awake for hours. She reads a bit but often just lies there and then appears to tell me she can't sleep. She says her throat gets tight and I know she's a worrier like me. I am currently on anti-depressants for insomnia and night panicking and worry that dd1 will end up the same as me.

Dd falls asleep about 9ish and wakes around 6.30am - generally a bit sluggish at first but soon wide awake. She's doing well at school and seems happy so should I be trying to get her to sleep or just accept that she no longer needs as much sleep as her younger sister?

my ds (nearly 7)goes to bed at around 7.45pm and is up at about 6.30am. some nights he lays awake. i refuse to let him read or play after he has gone to bed. bedtime is sleeptime and that is it. we have stopped reading in bed, its all done downstairs so that he knows when he goes upstairs to bed it is to sleep. when it does take him some time to sleep he is usually asleep by 9pm. there are other nights he goes to sleep half an hour after he has gone to bed. i still put him to bed at the same time (No later than 8pm) and don't give in to any of his requests or acknowledge any of his complaints as i feel this is only encouraging him when i know there is nothing wrong. if you are satisfied that there is nothing wrong with her then dont acknowledge or make a fuss of it.maybe she does need a little less sleep and maybe allow her to stay up for half an hour longer, if she starts to get tired after a few days put her to bed early one night.

i would personally stop her reading once she has gone to bed so she knows that it is time for sleep, if she doesnt sleep at least she is relaxing and chilling out, something we could all do with a more of!
