How can I stop bouncing DD to sleep?

DD is 5.5 months. She's always had problems self settling and rejects all types of dummy but until about 3.5 months, the sure way for her to settle was to suck on my finger. All of a sudden, she rejected my finger and now the only way to settle is to carry her and to bounce bounce bounce (standing up only) - anywhere up to 2-3 hours. If she wakes up in the middle of the night and can not feed back to sleep, it's a repeat all over again. Our backs are in pain! Any suggestions welcome!

I have found 'The Baby Whisperer' very helpful...but if you buy it make sure you get 'the Baby Whisperer Solves All your Problems' as it goes into detail about several techniques.

I think for your DD's age she does pick up/put down....basically you pick her up and as soon as she stops crying you put her down.It will take a while at first but this is what you are doing anyway so nothing lost!
Definitely worth trying to sort it out sooner rather than later as she needs to learn to self settle as much as possible otherwise you'll be doing it at a year.

How about a snuggly blankie that you wear in your clothes for a couple of days so she can smell you and feel comfort? Not that I think it'll help on it's own but just something to add to the mix!
