DD is very, very close to being able to climb out of her cot. Trouble is at bedtime she takes around an hour of bouncing around and playing in her cot until she crashes out (we have tried tweaking her bedtime it makes no difference) and I am having hot sweats at the idea of her in a bed where she can spend that hour and more bouncing around the house. How did your wee live wires cope with the transition, any tips? She is 17mths

Um, it was a nightmare TBH! But it was a phase and it did pass!

Sorry Blush

DS is a total live wire. He went into a bed at about 20 months. He spends a good half hours climbing in and out of it as he is getting ready for bed, but after lights out he rarely gets out. The transition from cot to bed was very easy.

Hope taht balances out Wallace's post.

lol at wine and weetabix!

I did seriously almost consider a stairgate over the top of the cot!

A lid is a good idea.

I didn't think broken glass set into plasticine along the top railing would give Social Services a terribly positive lasting impression.

IME, it is a nightmare but it does pass. Eventually.

Sustain yourself with karmic fantasies of giving your grandchildren Sunny Delight with Red Bull depth charges every time they visit.

Still wondering about this myself - no solutions to offer yet. DD is the Duracell baby, like the bunny but more cunning.

We still co-sleep even though 20 month DD is happy to sleep alone in a little bed when she gets a chance.

The spare room which will eventually be DD's bedroom is down a flight of stairs from our room. Our whole flat is long and thin with 3 flights of stairs. DD has been a competent climber (of stairs and anything else in her path...) since before she could walk and I wouldn't be able to sleep for worrying about her going down into the kitchen or bathroom and hurting herself on something.

If I started thinking about stair-gates they'd have to be floor to ceiling to contain her and even then she'd probably watch us and figure out how to work the locking mechanism...

People used to suggest stairgates to use but I was worried she would bang and rattle on them and a) ruin the doorframe and b) wake her brother who although two years older than her seems to need a lot more sleep
