Shorter nights

Just wondering if any seasoned mums can advise me? My 20 month toddler has shortened his night from ten hours to nine! I let him sleep one and a half hours in the day. He wouldnap longer but when I let him he always got up early. But now he is getting up early anyway.

Should I reduce his nap? 8pm til 5am is a bit too little for me!

Advice very willingly received. Thanks so much

Well I am trying to wake him after one hour but he kept his eyes tight shut and cried til he fell asleep again. Maybe 45 mins would be better? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Would be v grateful for ideas please!

Does he seem tired? Could you just put him to bed an hour later?

My 20 month old DD sleeps for about 9 hours at night with a couple of 30-60 min naps in the day. I just take her to bed with me at 1030-11ish. We've never seen it as a problem.

Thank you togarama, certainly an idea and I might try it. I have always appreciated a couple of evening hours with him asleep tho and it wouldn't be possible to ever go out or to friends etc. Not that I do much! But it's nice to have the opportunity tho. But I think your solution might be the ticket! 5am us too early and he needed his 1.5 hr nap today.

Thank you for replying

Is he teething? Mine would wake 1 hours earlier than her usual wake up time if she was teething. Those back molars take a while to come out so early morning waking can be protracted.

At 20 months mine was napping around 45 minutes at 1.30pm and in bed for 7pm. Awake any time between 6 and 7am - around 6.30am if not teething and any time from 5am if teething. When her naps ceased altogether around 24 months then her night time sleep lengthened/got deeper.
