Weird night

My dd, 16 weeks, had the worst night ever last night. She has always been a good sleeper, however has started to wake every half hour or so from 4am onwards for her dummy. I have accepted that this is just something that she needs right now and will keep replacing it until she is old enough to find it herself, however last night was very out of character.

She had her immunisations on Tuesday and was very unwell Tuesday night, although did sleep well all night. Yesterday she was a bit under the weather and not hungry at all, only took about 15oz milk all day. She had a couple of short naps (30 mins) (she usually has 2 naps of about 1.5 hours and one nap of 1 hour during the day). She had her usual bedtime routine, bath, bottle, cuddle and by 19:00 I knew she was tired, she was rubbing her eyes and getting tearful, so I swaddled her and she fell asleep immediately.

I put her to bed fast asleep, but she woke half an hour later and was absolutely wide awake. She was almost hyper, kicking her legs like mad, laughing, squealing, smiling, etc. We then spent the next 2.5 hours trying to get her back to sleep, finally rocking her in her bouncy chair worked and she went back to bed at 22:00.

This lasted for 1 hour, she then woke up and was again wide awake - she spent the whole night wide awake (and as a result, so did I). Finally, at about 5:00am after 2 hours of being held, rocked and patted she went back to sleep. She then woke up at 7:15am and is now playing happily on her playmat.

She had taken some calpol before her bath as she was very tearful and hot so I believed she was still suffering from the effects of the jabs, but this may have made her hyper? Would that last all night though?

I am now not sure what to do with her today. Do I let her nap as normal, do I try to get her to sleep even more today as I don't want her to be overtired and then not settle again tonight? I have no idea what to do today or tonight now - this is so unusual for her. Please let me know what you would do today.

Should have said that I did offer her the bottle throughout the night in case she was hungry and, after taking about 4oz in total, she kept pushing it out of her mouth, chewing on it and just generally showing she did not want it, so it wasn't hunger.

hate to say it but my DD (now 23 weeks) did the same for 3 nights in a row at that age and I put it down to developmental spurt, was starting to look around and get distracted for feeds and would just wake up early evening. not even appear tired and that would be it- 2/3 hours of playtime til she was even remotely sleepy. I would just do naps etc as normal, but watch her cues, and is she seems very tired this afternoon could bring bedtime earlier a little bit??

There's a massive developmental leap and growth spurt around 4-5 months. I've forgotten the exact phrase it has been christened but it will pass. I'd go with her cues for naps - if she wants more, then give her more but not too close to bedtime.
