Those that use grobags- how do you keep baby's arms warm?

I suspected for a while that DD was waking a smidge because she was cold- quick cuddle/breastfeed with warm mummy and off she goes back to sleep. Last couple of nights she has slept through as has been in long sleeved vest and a sleepsuit.

So do I go and buy a few more long sleeved vests (and where on earth do you get cheapy ones- the ones I have are actually meant as tops rather than vests so more expensive)? or do I put her in a soft cotton cardy or can you buy long sleeved grobags or do I use an extra blanket (but in liklihood wont make any difference to warm arms!)

I put DS in a long sleeved vest - I have cheap multipack ones from Mothercare, just bought another set for the size up from M&S (had a voucher) and I've seen them in Sainsburys as well.

oh lordy how embarrassing- mothercare does long sleeved vests.

I just had my ds in a long sleeved vest - the ones that popper fasten underneath. You can get them in packs from M&S/John Lewis etc.

It doesn't really matter if their arms get a bit cold - as long as their core is warm Smile.

right will go and stock up- how annoying I just got a pack of short sleeved vests before I realised that was possibly the problem. Ah well if its really cold she can have two vests and a sleepsuit and her grobag!

We tend to use a long sleeved vest and a pyjama top. Did you get the little temperature guide thingy which says what to dress them in at what temperature?

I've found it quite useful, although DS hands are always cold, but I fugure even if he had blankets on his hands would be sticking out.

BertieBotts · 22/09/2010 18:36

H&M do nice long sleeved vests as well.

DD never needed a long sleeved vest and and sleepsuit, even when it was really cold (and we don't have central heating, just a really crappy heater in her room). She would have been too hot with a blanket on top of her gro-bag too. Depending on the temp, we'd use just a short-sleeved vest, just a long-sleeved one, just a sleepsuit, or short-sleeved vest and sleepsuit. Phew!

If you're worried she's cold, don't feel her hands, slip your fingers (or back of hand better) into her chest. Manipedi is right about core warmth. Smile

Thanks for asking this - and answering. I received my grobag yesterday and was wondering about this myself.... (going to be first time mum!)

You can also use baby leg warmers on the arms. For a cheaper version, use adult long socks / over the knee socks and chop off the toe.

I get the long-sleeved bodysuits (vests) from Tesco & Sainsbury's - they're pretty cheap and they seem to wear well.

we always used thinner handknitted cardis over babygros in our grobags, lovely lovely!

littlemissindecisive · 22/09/2010 19:38

Adsa and tescos do them for a couple of pound for 3

I have a growbag with arms, it has two layers too (for winter/summer), and the arms zip off - it is fantastic, I bought it 8+ yrs ago, used it for both dc and visiting children. It is great if you live in a cold house/don't put heating on in bedrooms. this is it

lizziemun · 22/09/2010 20:00

here growbags with arms from jojo mamas

PurpleCrazyHorse · 23/09/2010 07:58

I've put socks on DD's hands when really cold (or you can get snazzy long-sleeved vests with integrated mittens!!)

MiniMousse · 05/10/2010 22:07

get one of these they are brilliant

nannynobnobs · 05/10/2010 22:10

We just used cardies under grobags. I would feel the back of the neck (in that lovely crease) for warmth when they were small.
