Whats the longest you have left your baby to cry?

My ds went down tonight at 6.20 then woke up crying at 7.20. He had already had Calpol. I went up after 5 mins to put his mobile on and to make sure he wasnt too hot then i left the room and left him to cry. I usually leave him to cry himself back to sleep as its usually only for about 20 mins at most. But tonight he cried non-stop until just after 8 (40 mins). I went up every 10 mins to make sure he wasn't too hot and to put his mobile on but i didn't get him out as he got used to me doing that a few months ago and took a while to get him out of it. He wore himself out and fell to sleep on his own but this is the longest time i have ever done this. Do you think it is ok?

I do, but I know many wouldn't.

I'm laughing at myself, cos I misunderstood what you wrote about his "mobile"!

I think that's fine because you checked on him every 10 minutes

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 04/09/2005 20:40

longest i have left jess was 35 mins, checking on her every 5-10 mins.

starlover · 04/09/2005 20:43

hmm i don't let ds cry thst much tbh. sometimes he just gets bery overwrouhgt and just needs to come out and have a cuddle and maybe a bit of water and then go back to bed and he settles down again

juicychops · 04/09/2005 20:44

it started off crying then got a bit hysterical so went to stroke his head for a few mins then back to normal crying then grizzling until he fell asleep

I wish, juicychops! My colicky monster cries for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours at a go. Obviously, we check on her every 5 mins if she is in the cot but you can't hold her standing up for that long.

juicy chops, sometimes i think at this stage they do wake into the sleep after an hour or so and think it was just a nap and dont really know to go back to sleep.
maybe if he went to bed a little later he might not wake so soon into his sleep. 6.20 is quite early for 7 1/2mths, what time is he up in the morn?

juicychops · 04/09/2005 21:05

His normal bed time is 7 but because he woke up early this morning i put him to bed earlier as he was tired. He usually wakes up at 5.30 for a bottle then goes back to sleep until 7am. Ive tried putting him to bed later but he doesn't wake up any later in the morning. always at 5.30 for a bottle. this morning he never went back to sleep after his bottle so he was really tired this evening

well thats ok jc, maybe tonight he was just tired. 7 seems pretty normal to me.

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 21:08

Longest "total" was 2hrs 52 minutes, the first night of CC we did with DS1 aged 6 months. We did 2,5, 10 and then 20 minute intervals though - so it wasn't constant

juicychops · 04/09/2005 21:24
