Had trouble with dd for the past week, couldnt get her to sleep in her cot, screemed as soon as i put her in it so she has been sleeping in bed with me. Today we bought her a toddler bed, wasnt going to put her in it until i could buy a bed gaurd but she played up so much when i tried to put her in her cot so i put her in the bed and now shes fast asleep. She looks so tiny in a bed, she is 18 months, is this to young?

if she sleeps in it ok then i would say it's fine!

Kidstrack2 · 03/09/2005 20:58

Not too young but make sure she has a soft landing! And also make a big fuss in the morning of telling her she was a big girl sleeping in her own bed!

my dd went into a cot bed at about that age too she doesnt have a bed guard on and sleeps much better than she ever did in a cot

We put dd1 into a toddler bed at 16 months (had to cos birth of dd2 was fast approaching) and she was absolutely fine after the novelty of being able to get out really easily wore off

I put her cot matress on the floor so she has a soft landing, just got to remember to keep the stairgate shut. Shes always hated being in her cot and has never slept well in it, just hope she likes it in the bed.

I moved ds out of his cot at 14 months as he hated his cot and never slept well in it. From then on he slept much better, but yes remember the stairgate. Also you may get nighttime or early morning visits!
We have a bed guard which stops the falling out.
Good luck

my dd was in a normal bed from 14 mths as she was such a terrible sleeper in that she always woke herself up by getting stuck in the bars or banging herself on the cot as shes such an active sleeper!! and cannot keep still..even now at the age of 4 she s never the right way round and even has her own double bed and she still manages to roll around and almost fall out and she s awful to sleep with as she fidgets so much which probably accounts for the reason why shes always so tired during the day!!

Can I ask where everyone got thier toddler beds from? We are hoping to transfer dd into one in the next few weeks but haven't really seen any that i like! She has just recently started to climb out so now is the time! Have been on Ebay a few times but I like to see what I'm buying or hear good views first.

DD was 18 months when we put her in a bed and it was the right time for her.

Hulababy · 03/09/2005 21:56

Ours was a Mothercare one - £60. Mattress was extra.

Nemo1977 · 03/09/2005 21:58

she will be fine, ds was 12mths when i moved him due to trying to vault over the cot bars...

IKEA do extendable junior beds - so you start off with them little, cot bed size and extend them as they grow. They're quite reasonably priced too (20% all bed frames this catalogue).

I think they are pretty sturdy too, at least the ones in our store manage to survive being jumped on by huge amounts of kids (and adults!) every week.

Have a look here....

18 months for ds - and I did a 'thread review' on here to check whether it was ridiculously early, and it seemed to be average!

We bought an ordinary single second-hand, choosing it because it was quite low to the ground. I felt becuase i was moving ds because he climbed out of the cot, giving him guards would be recreating the problem - I felt happier with him just in the bed. He seems to have got used to it fine, bar a couple of nights when he wandered out and got confused.

Oh yeah, and DD is fine in her toddler bed. She started diving out of her cot at 20 mths (really diving too!) so we had to move her. For the first couple of nights she kept getting up, but she's fine now. It's nice as she gets up in the morning when she hears her Dbros, and doesn't have to yell at me to get her out. This morning DS1 (7) even made all of them breakfast before I emerged from my bed
