rocking 15 week old to sleep - rod for own back?

Our DD has had bad colic - see lots of other posts about "help my DD has colic"! For the last 12 weeks the only way to get to sleep as been on her tummy (I know this is wrong but it has helped her wind and it is only for the first half of the night. After 10.30pm dream feed she goes on to her back) and being rocked back and forth in her Phil & Teds cocoon. She is now 16 weeks old.

However this has got to stop because 1) I have now got muscles like Arnie from so much rocking and she is just getting heavier
2) it won't be long before she doesn't fit in the cocoon.

How do I break the habit though? Do I just go cold turkey on the rocking / tummy thing? CC or PUPD? Last night when she was drowsy I laid her in her cot on her back and her eyes pinged open with a look that said "what the hell do you think you are doing? Get the cocoon now and start rocking or I will scream the place down".......I caved in as anything for a quiet life.

I should point out this is my second child and the first one was a pretty good sleeper from the start so this is all new territory. I think I have probably pandered to DD2 so as not to upset DD1 with her constant colicky crying.

I think the Baby Whisperer would call the cocoon a parent crutch, my MIL calls it a rod for my own back and god only knows what Gina would say!

Any advice gratefully received. Sorry for long post!
