Sleeping through?

I'm after a bit of advice... DS (23 weeks) suddenly slept through 7.15pm-6.30am on Tuesday night. He then did 7.15pm-6am on Wednesday. Thursday night was awful - he slept through till 4am, woke for a feed and then decided it was time to be awake, then passed out at 6.15am! We ended up having to wake him at 8am so he could get ready to go to creche.

So on Friday night, we tried doing a dreamfeed at about 10.45pm. We'd tried it in the past and it hadn't really worked. But it seemed to work OK on Friday, and he took about 5oz of a 7oz feed without hardly waking up. He then slept through till about 6am. Did the same on Saturday night, with similar results. Last night we did it again and he woke at 5.30am!

So, my question is really, am I being unrealistic trying to get DS to sleep through? Should I just leave him to do it himself or persist with a dreamfeed? I know he can do a long stretch, as he does it without the dreamfeed sometimes. But, then he wakes up starving.... This morning he definitely woke up hungry - I could hear him tummy rumbling! The trouble is, both me and DH are at work, so really can't handle 5.30am starts...

Any advice? I'm confused about what to do...

He's still young to sleep through consistently and tbh it is great that he has managed so well.
It must be a bit of a nightmare when you have work next day. DO you haveo ther kids to see to in the evening? If not maybe you need to get really early nights for a bit till he sleeps till later. Maybe not ideal to miss your evenings, but only for a few months by the sound of it.
Personally I never found a dream feed worked with ds1, but it does for many people. Ds 2 is NOWHERE NEAR sleeping through so I am Envy Wink

hi amyboo i am having the same problem with my 23 week old. the dream feed does not really seem to make her sleep through and she can still wake at unearthly hours!! have started solids recently too but that too hasnt really helped. sorry dont have any tips but thought i would share the pain

Thanks for the replies - nice to know I'm not alone! I'm persisting with the dream feed. Last night he went to sleep about 7.15pm, took about 6oz at 10.30pm, then woke at 3.30am (quick dummy replacement and rolling him back onto his back - he'd got stuck!), and again at 5.30am (dummy replacement). I eventually had to wake him up at 7.40am so I could get him ready for creche!

So, it seems he can do it if he wants to... Although, he was at home with DH yesterday and apparently didn't really nap much, so that could explain the lengthy sleep. Still, I shall persist with it tonight and see how we go. It's just so frustrating not knowing if it's going to be a good night or not... But then before I started the dreamfeed he could sometimes be awake for 2 hours wanting to play at 4am!

Pooonchi - we started solilds about 5 weeks ago, and it had no noticable effect on his sleeping unfortunately :( I think the current bout of good sleeping is due to the fact he started creche 4 days a week at the end of August.
