Baby is just coming up to 4m old. She is a pretty good sleeper, used to sleep through from about 9pm to 6am or so and we are currently having one or two night feeds (she seems to be having a bit of a growth spurt as she's feeding constantly in the day too and poss start of 4m sleep regression). She goes to bed at night awake and just goes off to sleep by herself, usually goes back in her cot after night feeds but sometimes comes into bed with us.
She has never really napped during the day - she sleeps if you push her around in the pram and will sometimes doze in the bouncy chair, but she will not nap in her cot. I'd like her to get a bit more sleep in the day as she gets a bit overtired and narky sometimes and it would give me a chance to do a bit of housework! On days when I'm really knackered we nap together in our bed and if I lie down with her she will be fast asleep quite quickly but obviously I can't iron/wash up/whatever from there and I daren't leave her asleep in the middle of the big bed in case she suddenly learns to roll repeatedly or something!
She'll be going to nursery at 7m, am going to find out when nap time is and try and get her used to the idea...now how the heck do I get her to nap? Any ideas? I can't drive her to sleep as I can't drive.

ps cot is in our bedroom at the head of the bed and we don't have blackouts or anything so she is used to sleeping in a room that isn't completely dark.

Wow, your DD seems to be in a great night-time sleep routine already, well done to you!

My DS is 6 months and it's only in the past month that I've started noticing when is a good time to put him down for daytime naps.

He goes for an hour long nap from approx 10-11am, then another hour long nap from 3-4pm.

Either I take him a walk in the pram, or a drive to settle him, but that isn't always practical!

So what I do is when I spot he's getting tired around those times - rubbing eyes, yawning, getting grumpy etc - I put him in his cot and try t let him settle himself.

Your DD isn't old enough for controlled crying, but it's good that she self-settles when she's tired.

She self-settles at night but not in the day. She's generally a very happy excitable little person and I think she's scared of missing something! Am going to try putting her down two hours after we've got up and see what happens with that.

Sounds similar to my DS :) I put him down for a nap about 2-3 hours after he wakes and it works often but not always....

:(
Trying the no cry nap solution.
It's not going well so far. I am starting to feel quite stressed and am sure baby doesn't usually cry this much!
