When will my 10week old DD sleep longer between feeds?

My 10week old DD has always woken up about every 2hours in the night for a feed (BF), I thought that night feeds might get less but it hasnt, and she usually only falls to sleep during a feed. Is it likely to stay like this until she starts eating solids?

Not sure - but it will get better. You're doing a great job and giving her a great start. The sleep deprivation is awful, though, isn't it, but things will start to turn soon (12 weeks maybe?)

Hi my baby is 3 months now and he can go (if he feels like it) for 6/7 hours, the usual is 3/4 tho. Do you use a dummy because I found that made a big difference. Try giving her a dummy to suck on when she wakes up the first time, she might just want the comfort of sucking. Also I have heard it is important to make sure they feed for long enough so they get enough calories during the day to keep them going at night. Try waking her up if she falls asleep during a feed (daytime) and give her more
I also tend to give mine a lot of milk(both sides) in the evening before bed time although this is really because he wont go to sleep any other way at night. hope things improve soon

Thank you. I've tried a dummy but she rejected it every time. Yes i'l try feed her more in the daytime. Thx for your advice x

Hope you've had a bit of a better night. And do you "cluster feed" i.e feed and feed as much as they want in the evening?

mammainlove · 29/08/2010 11:30

It was a bit better thank you. She slept for 4 hours at first this time, then woke every 2. I do cluster feed, but will try even more this evening. It takes a while for the milk to 'fill up' again :)

With the dummy, i found my baby would not take one apart from the tommy tippee close to nature ones. Might be worth trying these as they have quite a different shape to normal dummies. Hope that helps. Its a nightmare not getting enough sleep, my wee one was a monster last night (he sleeps badly when he is windy and I dont know how to fix that) and i feel wrecked today

Thank you. I will look out for one of those dummies. Have you tried eating or drinking a pro-biotic yoghurt regularly? I have Yakult every day which helps my baby's tummy/digestion x

Drinking fennel tea is another one often suggested to help with wind....(yours and the baby's!)
