4mnth old putting legs out through cot bars

Hi, this isn't really a sleep issue but wasn't sure where else to put it - we have a three sided bedside cot, which I have for a few days now, been moving away from our bed and putting the fourth side on, in an attempt to stop our moving about waking our 19 week old DD. Been working well, she seems to be waking a little less..however, last night, she was restless and I turned over to see her sticking both legs right out through the fourth side - she hasn't done this before with the other sides, strangely. she is very wriggly, (turns herself right around some nights, in her sleep) and she is in a gro bag, but should I be worried about this? she also wedges her legs up against the sides to sort of push herself off, she does it with other objects during the day, so guess I am worried she might push herself, get a leg stuck, or get twisted about with one leg stuck.
My mum then made me worry even more as she then told me all about that panorama story this week too, so now have taken the side off for now and moved it back against our bed, however she will eventually move into bigger cot where she can do the same.
So - use cot bumpers - which I know are advised against, or just not worry - I think if she did get stuck I would really know about it, she isn't a quiet baby!

This is the recent situation with cot bumpers from FSID:

In the past, there had been concerns that bumpers may make babies too hot, increasing the risk of cot death.

However, recent research has shown that they have neither adverse nor beneficial effects.

Consequently, FSID and the Department of Health neither promote nor discourage the use of bumpers.

Seems like they are fine to use

brilliant, thanks - will look at them - just wasn't sure either way, but I guess on one side might be ok, to put my mind at rest about her hurting her legs, she really is going for it with the kicking and wriggling in her sleep!

Yeah mine is a little wriggler too so I have got a bumper and a positioner to stop her moving around all over the place!

I had the same problem and didn't want to use a cot bumper. My friend recommended an Airwrap - it's basically a cot bumper that your LO can breathe through and shouldn't overheat next to. If you look it up on Google there are lots of suppliers.

yeah try the airwrap, totally breathable and will stop the limbs getting through the gaps!

ooh, airwrap sounds good, thanks all thought I might have been being a bit too much of a worrier, nice to know its not just mine - she actually span herself totally around last night by kicking the cot! crazy behaviour! we are camping for two weeks with her after this week s wont be a problem in an air bed at least!
