Co- sleeping breast fed 16 month old

DS is 16 months and has always been breastfed to sleep (no excuse was just easiest thing to do in busy household).

He still wakes to feed several times a night and enough is enough!

Does anyone have any advice for how to go from here to him settling himself in his cot for longer stretches with the least trauma possible?

Am fully aware I'm asking for a miracle but any advice gratefully received.

controlled crying and strict bedtime routine.

if you don't favour cry it out (Which I know I couldn;t cope with) I have just read 'no cry sleep solutions' which has lots of ideas for babies and toddlers, which you choose from to create the sleep plan best for you. I haven't implemented anything yet so can't share, but definitely takes 4-6 weeks to see an improvement... but I'm guessing that would be better than his current wakings.. the author is a co-sleeper and breast feeder too, so there are ideas for this situation also.....

good luck x

Thanks - I don't think I'm a controlled crying kind of girl so have just ordered Elizabeth Pantley from amazon. Fingers crossed...

Agree the Elizabeth Pantley book is good - it's not rocket science, but is a good place to start.

Basically what she suggests are ways to help your baby learn that they can go to sleep between sleep cycles (or even at the start of the night) without having to bf. It is a gradual method, but my DS's night wakings are reducing now with trying some of her idea.

She researched the book when her bfing, co-sleeping DS got to 12 months and had never slept for more than an hour and a half at a time without needing to feed back to sleep.

I reckon the NCSS (which is aimed at babies) is probably the one you want, but there is one for toddlers & pre-schoolers too.
