Only wants to sleep in car seat

Hi

DD is now 3 weeks old and last week she seems to have decided that at night the only place she will settle to sleep is in her car seat which I really don't want her to get into the habit of. Previously she was sleeping fine in the carrycot, but now everytime I put her down, even if she is already asleep she wakes 5 minutes later and screams the place down. Any tips? THis is my first and really don't know what to do.

Thanks

Hi kipper

The only advice I would give, and I'm sure someone else will disagree with me, but at this stage, just do whatever get you through the night (and/ or day). Don't worry about bad habits forming; things change all the time with a little person.

Maybe just go with it for a few days, and then try her again in her cot?

my DD (now 16 weeks) was similar- the only thing we did (still do) is wait til she is in very deep sleep (arm flops if you move it) then place her in moses basket. This does mean takes a while to get her in there but once down my DD would sleep for at least 4 hours and from 7 weeks even slept 6-8 hours. Give it a try :)

Hi kipper

ds was like this and it's a real pain in the bum because you cannot let them sleep in car seats for more than brief periods as it affects their ability to breathe. Think the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths charity has some information on this.

We had some success with propping one end of his cot up so he wasn't completely flat. Just put some big books under the legs at one end.

In ds's case, I think it was digestion - I could never make him burp as much as he needed however much I rubbed his back and used all the tricks about cycling his elgs and so on. He used to writhe around and fart a LOT in his sleep. I can only grin in retrospect as at the time it was very difficult and the movements and sounds in his sleep were very alarming.

We also had an old fashioned pram where ds could lie flat - he seemed to prefer that to his cot.

Hope your dd grows out of this stage soon as I know how difficult and worrying it is!
