Co sleeping how do you do it?

Just wondering how people do this - do you use a blanket, what about pillows, is baby in the middle etc etc

My DD never seemed to want to be in with us, and in any case I have been too unwell to have her in before now. But this morning we put her in with us as she just wouldn't go back to sleep in her crib, and she slept brilliantly. Very surprising as it normally seems to wake her up in our bed!

Am thinking of keeping going with this, but wondered how other people do it in practical terms. Thanks.

Unicef has a good leaflet on how to do it here:

We have a sidecar cot which gives us that much needed extra space (even with a king sized bed) and it's where DS sleeps for the first part of the night when I'm still up eating dinner etc. I have an adult sized cotton cellular blanket and DP keeps the duvet on his side of the bed, I have quite a firm pillow which I sometimes push up behind me to sleep with my head on the mattress depending on what position DS has ended up in, and DS (5 months) sleeps mostly on my side (easy because of the sidecar), but recently does come into the middle more often now that he's older and DP is more used to sharing the bed with him safely.

I had a blip a few weeks back as I found that DS was really wriggling in his sleep and waking me and I went through a few nights of putting him back in his cot area to sleep. Sort of worked but we're back to our usual pattern now. It did teach me that co-sleeping wasn't always going to be the perfect way to achieve the best nights sleep but it still suits me (and I hope DS) far more than a separate cot at the moment.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Thanks both, am not bf unfortunately but I think she does still find it nice us being close. I kept getting punched in the face last night though so not sure if it's good for me or not!

We don't have room for a sidecar cot but if we moved/had another DC I think I'd invest in one, they look great.

Some of my fondest memories of cosleeping are of being gently pummelled in sensitive places by a happily sleeping child!
