He's 11 weeks and a nightmare, poor soul.

Has had severe reflux and is very, very hard to settle.

I am more than happy for him to sleep on me but he won't sleep anywhere for more than 30 minutes in the day time whether on me, in the pram or in his swing. He wakes up grumpy as he doesn't get enought sleep and then by evening he is hystrical with tiredness.

Any suggestions/reassurances it will end?
I have another ds, but he was easy peasy.

We asked the GP for some help and she prescribed infant gaviscon. We give our son this in a bottle at bedtime (he is nearly 7 months) and started doing this when we first got the prescription when he was about 3 months. It does help! Before that, our only solution was to have him propped up on my partner's chest, because DS could only sleep somewhat upright and he was a big heavy baby who crushed me when I tried it.

Sorry, this is the only thing I know of, that works. Occasionally our DS still has to sleep upright on my partner's chest, so it's not a 100% fix, but if you and your DS are as bone-achingly tired as we were, I hope it helps!

PS The Gaviscon can be prepared with hot water if you are breastfeeding.

Have you tried pushing him around for long spells in his pram? my wee guy only likes to sleep in the car seat bit of his pram. he hates the flat bit. Also we could not get our baby to sleep in his own bed til we bought an amby hamock which works very well, keeps him upright and can rock/bounce him to sleep in it.
Sounds like medication might be necessary though. hope it gets better soon

Poor thing! I have an Italian friend who swears by chamomile tea for everything and my Romanian community mid-wife also swears by it (she did a herbalist course for 5 years...this is off the record though as it is not put forward by the NHS). Chamomile tea for babies seems to be better known in Europe, I think, than the UK - it might be a bit controversial though as it is not recommended to give babies anything other than milk at that age. On the recommendation of her Hungarian friend, my mum used to give it to me after my baby immunisations as I would not want milk. If you can get organic whole flowers then you boil them until the water is pale yellow, cool and give it to your bub at room temperature in a sterilised bottle (not a lot..you don't want to replace a milk feed, but just a sip or two after a feed or inbetween feeds). It can aid digestive and sleep problems, in babies and adults. You can also drink it and the benefits may be passed on. That's all I can think of to suggest, although I have no experience with reflux, best to do a bit more research on it yourself...good luck.

I had a baby who did this Sad. Was my second baby too!

I haven't got any magic cures, I'm afraid, except for repeating over and over to yourself that 'this too shall pass'. Unless he's poorly with it, in which case you need to see a doctor! My DD2 cried most of the time for the first 6m of her life Sad.

Have you got good baby carriers/slings you can use? And good friends/family you can use too!

He's on meds. Gaviscon was no good. He sees a paediatrician.

He sleeps on me (when he does sleep) and when I say pram, I mean car seat on wheels.

There is only so much walking I can physically do, plus I have a 4 year old who isn't very keen on walkinjg for miles.

I am losing the plot here after another night and day of utter hell.

Oh Nickytwotimes, it sounds horrible. My DS1 had quite bad reflux - he screamed every evening for a few hours before finally getting to sleep. We tried the Gaviscon, and it did help but constipated him. I took him to a cranial osteopath and a homeopath. It was the homeopath who fixed it - the day she gave me a special concoction made up just for DS1 based on our birth experience and his symptoms, his screaming reflux stopped. So I am a complete homeopathic convert... may be worth a try?

Fingers crossed you find something that works. XXX

Walking doesn't work at all for my ds2 (15 weeks). Very loud shushing in his ear and a dummy while juggling does. A swinging chair seems to help too.

Is it possible he's reacting to something in your diet?maybe cut out dairy? Either way, best of luck - I know you have it tough right now
