sleeping on side and waking

My nearly 6 month old DD has never slept through the night, but was only waking once for mik. This then changed to long screaming periods during the night (not hungry) which, after getting some advice from fellow mumsnetters, put this down to teathing - and calpol did help and this has now got better (although still no teath!).

I now have a new challenge! DD has started preferring to sleep on her side. goes down well in the evening but wakes many many times during the night which I can only think is becasue she has rolled on to her back and can not figure how to get back on her side. I turn her over (usually after a v quick cuddle) and she settles again - but will have to do this about 5 times in about 30 - 60 mins before she eventually settles completely, usuallfor about 3 hours before it all starts again.

Has any one else experienced this? is it likely to be related to sleeping on her side?

any words of wisdom / similar experiences would be welcomed! I am exhausted and fed up with people asking me if she is sleeping through the night yet -NO SHE ISN'T!!!

Could you bolster her behind with something to stop her rolling? DS (18 weeks) at about 10 weeks started settling a lot better if I put him on his side. I shove a cudly toy between his bum and the side of the cot. I've been doing it since then without any trouble, although at first I panicked that he would get the toy on his face somehow. He still likes to go down on his side for naps, although seems to now prefer being on his back at night.

I have this exact same problem with my DD (also 6 mo). at the moment I'm using rolled up blankets to support her back and stop her rolling backwards at night, but am uncomfortable using so much fabric in her bed. i get up on average 4 times a night to re-settle her after she has rolled onto her back and wakes herself up screaming.

I have recently bought a sleep positioner which is usually used for small babies to help them sleep on her back, but not much success using it yet as she wakes up whenever I put her within the supports. will keep trying though as she is beginning to get used to it (I hope!)
