4.5 year old suddenly wetting bed several times a night

Have also posted in potty training. Ds 1 is 4.5. He stopped wearing nappies at night and did really well with the odd accident now and again.

However recently he has suddenly started wetting the bed 2 or 3 times a night. Last night he crept into our bed and wet that . He is asleep when he does and often doesn't wake up. It seems unfair to put him back in pull ups but I can't keep up with the washing. Especially as he wets his duvet too.

His bedtimes have always been a struggle and have got worse recently too.

Could it be nerves about school?

Help.

It could be nerves about school. Last year, in the Summer hols before starting Reception in September, my DS who had been perfectly toilet trained since he was about 2 years and 9 months (including at night) suddenly started occasionally wetting the bed, perhaps once or twice a week or so. At the same time his stammer/stutter, which had been getting better, suddenly got terribly worse. Things settled down over the first half of the Autumn term once he realised school was ok. Not sure how you can settle his nerves about school as talking about it just draws attention to it and could make matters worse! Hopefully he will love school when he starts, Funnily enough last Summer when we went on holiday for a week, when life was relaxed and happy and fun and DS had full attention of both my husband and I all day every day....stammer and bed-wetting disappeared! They came back mind you! But it just goes to show how stress or lack of stress can affect them.

It could also be him coming down with something... only time my 4yo has had accdents is when getting a nasty infection.

Thanks for the replies. I think it's been going on for too long to be an infection - has been 3 or 4 weeks now and coincided with definite stroppiness to boot

Will try to reassure him a bit more and not talk about school too much.

I would take him to the doctors just in case! Make sure he has a check up (it could be a urinary track infection).

I'm saying this because at least twice I've assumed my DS's symptoms were psychological, and they turned out to be medical, once an abscess.

ooh, ok. Will take him just in case.
