Daytime sleep on me!

My dd is 11 weeks old and the last week or so has been sleeping really well at night in her Moses basket, from about 11-6.30ish. But during the day she will fall asleep on me but if I try and put her in her cost/Moses basket she wakes up straight away! I end up sitting with her sleeping on me which I'm worried will create bad habits and also means I get nothing done! Any advice?

A sling is great - she can still sleep on you but you have your hands free.

Alternatively, try putting her down after 15-20 minutes when she's in a deep sleep. One way to test if she's in deep sleep is to move one of her arms - if it is really limp & floppy, you may well be okay. If there is resistance, she's likely to wake up when you move her.

Really don't worry about bad habits at this stage - she is only tiny. It takes a while before babies get used to sleeping away from Mummy, and day sleep is often harder than night time. And enjoy the night time sleep -I'm rather !

I should have added that up to 3-4 months babies start off with REM sleep - twitchy and easily disturbed. After that, they go into deep sleep much faster without a long REM spell first, so it is then much easier to put them down quite soon rather than hanging onto them for ages first.

My DS slept on me during the day and night for a looooooooong time (months and months - he had silent reflux so didn't like being on his back).

He's 9.5 months and is napping in his cot as I type. No you wont create bad habits, just keep trying to put him down as Angel says.

One thing - when she's on you, she'll be sleeping on her front and on an incline. Much more comfortable than sleeping on her back (night sleep is easier as baby will be so tired and ready for a long sleep). This might be why. So, you could put the moses basket on a slight incline and swaddle. Or get a sling - I used to get loads done during my DS's two hour naps with him in the sling.

I just wanted to share my experience that at the same age my dd would also only sleep on me unless she was on the move in her pram / the car. I remember being really concerned that I was creating bad habits but looking back now (with a 17 month who will only sleep in her cot!) I really miss that time when she would cuddle into me and go to sleep. I know it is frustrating as you can't do anything while they sleep on you but it doesn't last for long and I would try and make the most of it!!

Thanks for the advice, will def use a sling for when chores need doing. Good to know it won't last forever and will just enjoy cuddling up to her for now!
