Those 'sleep' clocks ...

... do they work?
The ones where the toddler is told not to disturb mum/dad until a certain time.
DS1 (2.9) keeps waking at 5.15am, combined with 3-4 night wakings for DS2, it would be nice to habe a lie in until 6 or 7 (heaven!)
Thanks

I used fairy lights on a timer for dd and gradually made them come on later and later. Whent they stopped working we got her a digital clock and told her not to come through till it said 7:00. DS has also had a digital clock from around the age of 2 1/2 and also isnt supposed to come through till it says 7:00 (unlss they need the toilet but even then they go back to their room until it is the right time to get up).

we got the gro sun and moon and i'd say its been quite successful- not every morning but ds is getting the hang of it. He's 2.4. Since its a digital clock too i figured he'd get years of use out of it.

thanks both for posting. that's reassuring to know they can work.

seona - good idea about the fairy lights! also worth us thinking about putting them on later and later, i guess if we start at 6am for a day or so and see how we get on, we can then move times back by 15 minutes every day or so.

littlemiss - was the gro sun and moon i've seen on amazon and thinking of.

thanks again for posting.

Hi there,
We have just bought the gro clock too (sun and moon) and are having some success with it.
Sounds like we are in a similar situation with an older DC waking early after night feeds with a little one.
We really made a big deal out of it and showed her pictures of it on the computer and she was so excited when it came through the post. We told her it would help her know when it was morning and when it went yellow she could shout for us but not before!

We do still hear her beforehand sometimes but she is playing with her teddies in bed and not disturbing us.

We started setting it for the time she normally woke up for so that she did not have to wait too long the first morning and get cross with it - we have then changed it by 5 mins or so each day. So far we are at 6.40 and it is blissssssss!

sheeplikessleep · 19/07/2010 20:52

fantastic, thanks bubbles12, dh has just ordered it off amazon. i'm so excited myself! really hope it works. i will also show ds1 it on the computer to start getting him excited about it.

last night, the last feed for ds2 was at 4.15, i put him down at 4.45, to then be woken for the day by ds1 at 5.15. aghhhh! starting the day at 4.15 is just wrong wrong wrong

Gro clock here too. Mixed results really. DD 3.4 now, some mornings if she gets up too early I will ask her if the sunshine is on yet, and she will say 'No, but it is sunshine outside! Time to get up Mummy!'

Quite enjoying the duller days at the moment

Yes I have got blackout lined curtains but they just don't block quite enough.

Ceebee74 · 19/07/2010 20:57

Same as Moaningminnie - DS1 loves the concept of it but some mornings he totally ignores it and comes into our (or DS2's) bedroom at some ridiculous time and other mornings he does stay in his room until 6.50 (when it is set). Have tried a reward chart and for every 10 stars, he gets a reward but it is still hit and miss whether he 'obeys' the clock Still not sure how you can physically make a child stay in their bedroom if they don't want to??

He is on his second one now - he has had a Thomas one since he had just turned 2 but that broke so we bought him a Toy Story one for his 4th birthday last week.

Hi there

Had the same problem. DD would get up, wander into our room with all her clothes on, ready for the day at 5.30!!

Got her a gro clock off amazon, worked a treat. I'm not sure if she's actually sleeping any longer, but she's certainly not getting out of her bed until 7.15, which is when it's set to light up.

She loves it, the novelty still hasn't worn off after 2 wks. She'll start shouting that 'the sun has come up' when it's time for her to get up
