How long did your 4month growth spurt/sleep regression last?

Cos my DS has been like this for 3 weeks now, and is only 16 weeks old! He's been great until then - only slept through once, but was doing 5+ hour stretches which was fab. He's now waking after an hour or 2 after going to bed at 6.30pm (he never, ever used to wake before 10) and then is feeding between every 1 -2.5 hours...(a few days ago he did a 4 hour stretch and i thought that was a sign of things improving but sadly not)

I'm waiting for this 'phase' to end but am beginning to think is whole cycle is messed up!

I have tried streching out his feeds in the day, feeding him often and no difference. DH does a bottle at 10.30-ish but even this isn't helping like it used to.

No answers I'm afraid but I feel your pain- you posted on my thread I think about multiple night wakings. Totally still in the thick of it. 18 weeks tomorrow and has been going on since 15/6 weeks. On top of that, we're going cold turkey on the dummy this weekend which may prove to be a major mistake! Hoping it passes for you soon!

I'm going cold turkey with the dummy next week -once the school runs are over!

Good luck!

I'll keep you posted- last night first night. Wasn't pretty... Hoping a bit better today. Glad am not the only one mad enough to do it at the moment. I figure the longer I leave it, the harder it will become. Think we probably also need to unsaddle to allow him to get to his hands.

Several weeks is normal. The developmental spurt is at 19 weeks (counting from their due date, not their birth date so you need to adjust as necessary). I think DS's lasted 3 or 4 weeks.

More info on the regression here, here, here and here.

Suchanamateur, I don't wish to be the voice of doom, but during a sleep regression period is supposed to be the worst possible time to try to change the way a baby goes to sleep (see the third link above). Personally I'd leave it until you're out of the 4 month territory or there could be a lot of sleepless nights ahead. 6-8 months is supposed to be the next window of opportunity when making changes is most likely to be successful.

Yikes. Well, given we've lived through last night I think we'll give it two more days to see if we can crack it. Seems unfair to put him through that just to give it back. If we're still struggling come Monday, then we'll throw in the proverbial towel and give him back his dummy. Fingers crossed though.

Hope you survive!

A very familiar dilemma, the 'do we persevere or pack it in now?' one.

Oh no - so it looks like DS has just messed up his sleep & feed patterns and growth/development has nothing to do with it.

Worried about tonight now....he's fed once since 7.30am and had two 45min naps! No 2 days are the same with this boy.
