dd SCREAMING before nap times - NOTHING working

my dd is 4 months. she has always been very vocal and has always been walked/bounced (don't ask) in my arms to sleep.
she now screams before naps. she is usually up for 90mins before she starts rubbing her eyes or yawning or yelling (oh yes). as soon as i see this i pick her up and start walking. 5 mins later this turns into screaming. this can continue for 20 minutes regardless of what i do.
i have tried swaddling, lavendar oil and even picking her up before 90mins and before i see any cues but nothing stops her from reaching the screaming stage.
she has never been able to fall asleep on her own in her cot or even when lying down next to me which means at 430am i am walking/bouncing with her to get her back to sleep.
any tips please???? my health visitor saw her today and couldnt believe what a screamer she was!

is she hungry? have you tried giving her more milk?

divine drops stop my DS crying

no idea, sorry, although i found 4-6 months hard with distraction, massive growth spurt, sleeplessness etc etc

hth

thanks ruby.
not hungry - gets even more angry if i try and put her on the breast or offer the bottle. i think she dislikes it as she knows itll make her more sleepy???

my DS is the same - he is now nine months and actively fights to keep is eyes open!

they are a law unto themselves aren't they!

don't worry too much - i am sure you'll find a way.

like you said, you might just have a screamer !

bippyhippy · 14/07/2010 20:42

Maybe you could try getting her down a bit before she is tired. Take a look at this article on baby naps - it says to catch them before they're rubbing their eyes... not easy! Some useful tips in here though.

have you tried taking her to a cranial osteo? worked wonders for us, though i realise it's not for everyone.

Bippy - I've even tried picking her up only an hour after she's been awake but then I end up walking and pacing with her for 30mins and she -still- gets to the screaming stage!
Staines - I took her to an osteopath a month ago for her reflux. No real difference in the first treatment but she was much happier for a week after the 2nd. Now it seems like we're back to square one.
What I've started doing in the past 2 days is swaddling her as soon as she rubs her eyes, then using a White noise cd. She is out cold in 5-10mins. She's SO much calmer than before!
I'm also doing nap-blending from no-cry book so she's getting 3 full naps a day of 1-1.5 hours each.
She's still waking at 4am for a party though...guess I can't have it all!!!

I took stainesminor 3 times and his colic totally went - maybe worth another go? I also had a few treatments and they worked for me too. And the lady was LOVELY!

Glad you've had progress, Rachel.

There is a 'sleep regression' around 4 months when babies' brains are working hard on the 19 week developmental spurt. This may be affecting the night waking. More info here, here, here and here.

Don't worry, it's absolutely normal for a baby this age not to be able to get themselves off to sleep without help from parents. My DS has only done it couple of times and he's 6.5 months - and pretty normal, I'd say.

Sounds like my DD at that age.
Could you get a rocking chair for yourself easier on the back than walking.
Not that you need it as much
