DS is 20months old and one and off for the last month I'd say he's taken at least an hour to settle every night, we've gotten to the point of ignoring him til the crying escalates (having finally realise the difference between crying and shouting!), give him milk, put back his toys and dummies he's thrown out of his cot, give him a cuddle and leave.

Some nights he just chats, others he shouts and eventually cries.

He has a good 2 hour nap in the middle of the day, sometimes I have to wake him up if it's nearing 3 hours. Should I cut it shorter? He's definately tired at bedtime and we've had the same bedtime routine since he was 3 weeks old, I'm not sure he's overtired as on the occasions he's gone to bed earlier he's just woken up earlier.

Ideas?!

What time does he go to bed? Wake up?

7-7

this sounds exactly like my DD at the moment - but she is teething like crazy (looks like she's getting 2 molars and 2 canines) and she has a horrid cold/virus thing. It's driving us nuts, and likewise we end up getting her up, and settling her again. I keep telling myself that if they basically have a good sleep routine, then whenever whatever illness/teething/developmental thing is going on then they'll go back to their routine...

i hope so!! All I can think is maybe the heat, or he's getting too much daytime sleep?

well she used to be 7-7 (more like 8.30-7.30/8) with about an hour and a bit of a nap, but later in the day than it used to be - after lunch, waking around 3, so I think she's just not ready to go to bed at 7, even though she is tired then. God, who thought it would all be so complicated??

any better? we started to get her up at a decent hour and cut back her nap a bit, and that helped - but she's still yammering and muttering, and it's taking ages for her to go to sleep. PITA...
