We try to go away every couple of years with family for Christmas. 3 generations and a mix of skiers and non skiers.

The last 3 times we've gone to Morzine and the snow has been worse and worse each time. This year we decided to head higher and have booked to go to Tignes Le Lac. Typically, Morzine now has more snow than it's had for ages at this time in the season.

Tignes is very different to Morzine and extremely cold at the moment (loads of snow too) but I'm pining for Morzine as the non skiers have always been happy there.

If you've been to Tignes, how was it?

I am having the same anxiety!! We have been to Portes de Soleil for the last few years. This year we are going to Saas Fee which had temperatures of -20 with a windchill of -13 last week. The highest points are almost 1,000M higher than the highest in PdeS and quite frankly, I am terrified we are going to be freezing!!!!

Espace Killy is amazing OP! Such a range of skiing, totally snow sure. See validinet website for snow reports, you'll have a blast

We went to Tignes last year for the first time (for the same reason) and loved it - the skiing was brilliant and we'll definitely go back.

We spent most of the time on the slopes but had an afternoon in a lovely swimming pool and there was a nice centre so hopefully your non-skiers will have enough to do.

I love Tigne, great skiing, masses of variety, Val on your doorstep.

Take lots of layers, Balaclva, buff, hand warmers. We've skied in -30 and it was parky, but the kids were fine.

I've also been to morzine a couple of times and the terrain is different - no trees up high in Tignes, but you can go down much lower and get the same feel if trees are important.

For non-skiers, Morzine is probably a bit better to be honest. Tignes is purpose built for skiers, not a proper town like Morzine but there’s bars, cafes and restaurants and there’s a nice pool complex in Tignes 2100.
The skiers will love it!

We get to Tignes and I no longer ski. It isn't as good as some resorts for non skiers but there i is enough to do; all across the lake to Val Claret for some exercise,, swim at pool, meet at glacier for fancy lunch at le panoamique( book) usual mix of bars for coffees and a read, bus to lower parts of resort for meet up for lunch and chair back, husky dogs, taxi to Val D'isere, daily activities posted in maison de tignes , bowling , etc

Great skiing. Will be cold
Ice skating on the lake on lift pass as is one entry to the pool. I always find the pool a little cool for me. Xmas eve celebrations move around town. Check local signs for what’s going on. Xmas market in le lac. Last time we went at Xmas the small children were flood light sledging in the centre of Val claret. Worth skiing down to les brevieres for lunch and meet non skiers down there. Ski over to val d,isere and meet non skiers.
Did I say will be cold! Definitely need buffs etc. The top of the glacier even colder. But great skiing. I’m envious. We have done 2 Xmas,s and 3 week before christmases. Why is the snow fantastic when we can’t go!
