looking for a ski holiday for dh and i plus 2 ds. we haven't been before and i was thinking of somewhere with childcare/ski school. there are quite a few companies to check out (looking at the other threads) but i was just wondering how much should i budget for 1 week of all-inclusive skiing?

It depends very much on the week and the resort. DH and I learnt to ski about 10 years ago and have usually previously done self catering and budget flights, which is pretty cheap.

However, we are going next week, with 18 month old DS with Espirit Ski . We are going next week because it is one of the cheapest in the season, and to the Italian Dolomites, because it is so much cheaper than the French Alps. It is still costing £2500 half board, and including child care (in the chalet), flights, lift tickets and travel insurance. No lessons, no lunches. Supplement for flying from Manchester rather than London, supplement for having a room with a bath (essential for achey legs).

If you budget £500 each for flights/accomodation/food, £150-£250 each for lift pass, £150 each for lessons/childcare, £100 for equip hire, then you'll be in the right ball-park. The basic cost does vary +/-£200 depending on when you go, but the extras don't vary. So that's £700 to £1000 each.

Then you need to add to this the cost of coffee stops (~£3 each/time), lunch (~£10 each/day), and any apres ski, then you can get a good idea of the costs.

If you want to get the costs down, then self-drive/self-cater can half the basic cost for a family of four.

thanks MrLSG. that sounds about the amounts i have been seeing on the various websites so it's good to know that those prices are "reasonable"!
