Rather stupid chair lift question...

We are off skiing on saturday to Les Arcs, unfortunately I have just had to have a minor operation so it's unlikely I'll get much skiing in. I do want to get up mountain though, if only for a cheeky vin chaud or three and to enjoy the views....

What happens if you're on a chair lift without skis? Do you just have to jump off and run really fast down icy slope?! Also will probably have 10mth dd strapped to my front - is this do-able?!

They may or may not allow you on. If it is a non skier lift they will slow it down so you can jump/walk off at the exit.

They will have cable cars for non-skiers to go in

Enjoy

Not sure about this resort but have noticed in other resorts pedestrians are taken at certain times (eg. half past the hour) - contact the tourist office or lift pass people when you get there. If you have a choice take a cabin type lift rather than a chair lift. Chair lift is fine without skis going up. However it does feel different going down and as there won't be many other down passengers you end up further from the ground.

a lot of chairs don't 'download', so check before you get on, but you may be able to walk down a green run (if you are up to it). you would put the little one on a sledge and pull her down. have to say it looks a bit dangerous in my opinion. i expect there will be a cable car you can use very easily. remember to wrap up warm though - it is a suprise how cold it is if you are not in ski wear.

Thanks everyone! Will check I'll be allowed down before I go up!

They won't let you take a 10m old on a chairlift, but if there's a cable car then it's fine. You shouldn't take a baby over 3000m as they can get Alt sickness, so watch top of lift height.
If you are without LO, in my experience they dont' often slow the lift down for you to get off, you have to hop off and dart to the side quick smart. make sure you're on the outside seat.
coming down is fine.
I've found in the last 3 resorts I've been that you get a few people using the lifts as pedestrians - walking trails etc. But you do feel the odd one out!

Many chairlifts that go up near to 'food ' stations take foot passengers up and down.My 78 yr old father does then regularly to meet yo with the skiing family members. They do sometimes slow them down as well when you get off or the 'chappie' holds the seat back a bit until you get off.
As for taking a 10 mth old I wouldn't take them over 3000 as said but I have taken my ( then ) dd at 8mths on in a front pack up to 2000 and she was fine - we did not do this on day one but gave her time to get used to the resort level first.
The tourist info or even Lift pass office can give you all the info.
Sorry about the injury and hope it is nice and sunny so you can at least enjoy the sun !
