Places to stay en route to the alps?

We are going skiing in Puy St Vincent France with our two boys (2 and 4). We are driving over a couple of days and want to stay somewhere nice on the way. Can anyone recommend any good overnight stop offs?

Many thanks

Have you looked at www.viamichelin.com

Thank you. Val Moret looks good.
I've found a place on Alastair Sawdays website near Reims called Au pre du Moulin which looks really nice. Thinking of spending two nights en route given that the children go a bit bonkers if they're in the car too long.

I have no suggestions for you but we have just come back from a week's snowboarding in Puy with Snowbizz and we have had an absolutely fantastic time.

We're staying near Macon on our way down to the Alps in March here. Hoping it will be nice as not have stayed here before, but looks good.

In the past we have stayed at Etap hotels - which really are very basic, but have always been clean. We have only used them when arriving late (11pm) and leaving early (8am). You use your credit card to get a code to get into your room, as reception tends not to always been manned.

Just checking in peckhammummy and busywheels to see what you decided re: overnight stay? Any recommendations/advice? Leaving for PSV in 3 weeks with no reservation yet for our overnight stay along the way....

Please could you let us all know how you get on when you come back? my husband wants to drive (we are going to puy next year) and I am curious to know how others find it. How do the kids cope, how long was it, were there any problems/bonuses?

We go regularly to southern alps near Puy and often break journey at a b&b half way between Calais and the Alps. It is fab and not at all expensive. check out www.aupredupoirier.com For 2 rooms, in sort of annex, fab breakfasts and 4 course dinners it is about 95 Euros. The owners are lovely (although don't speak too much English).

My boys are 5 and 3 and while the journey is long, it has never been a problem.

Dijon is a very nice place to stay. Medieval old town with many hotels.
