Packing for advanced skier- any advice from ex-saisonnaires etc?

Any tips please on packing for an advanced skier who is taking skis, boots, avalanche kit etc as well as clothing? DS2 is off on a ski course next month and will be taking all this equipment out with him to Verbier. He'll be taking a large duffle/trolley bag, 35 litre rucksack as hand baggage and ski bag.
His course is for 10 weeks (what a sad life those gap-year students have) paid for by working since finishing his A2s last summer.

Get as much as possible into the ski bag, as they tend not to weigh those!

Thanks - I can see that we will be stuffing the ski bag with the avalanche kit, underwear etc. He's pretty strong so hopefully should pass the first test of lugging this lot from Geneva Airport via the train and bus/cable car up to the resort. I wonder if it is possible to put the ski boots (Size 11) into the rucksac - and will it be ok for security?

They don't usually allow you to take boots in your hand luggage - too heavy if they happened to fall out of the overhead lockers apparently!. But one trick is to take the liners out of the boots to travel - then you can stuff both the boot and liner with other small things (socks and gloves are ideal) so they don't actually take up much extra space.

Thanks, good tip about separating the liner and boot. Yes, the idea of putting the boots into the rucksac was perhaps not too clever. He will also have a helmet to stuff full of socks etc. Packing for skiing is very technical and we'll have to plan it/pack and repack over several evenings rather than shove it all in at the last minute (as I would normally do for holidays).
