Skiing/boarding with toddler + friends.

Before DD came along DH and I used to go snowboarding every couple of years with friends. We always did it on a tight budget and sacrificed luxuries - i.e ski in ski out, full board, apres ski etc. to be able to afford the trip.

Next year DD will be 18 months and friends have asked if we'd like to go away again. We have time to save up so I don't mind being a bit less frugal to make the most of the trip.

What do you think would be the best way of doing it? There will be 6 adults + DD. Friends have said that they don't mind taking turns to look after DD and DH is happy to only do a couple of days boarding if that doesn't work very well).

Should we get a chalet? go self catering? a hotel?

Should we fly? drive? coach? train?

So many variables!

Or is it an unrealistic idea and should we wait until DD can enjoy the skiing herself?

We've taken both ours away when they were under 1. I'd say the one of the most important things is to have your accommodation very near or on the piste. We have compromised in the past but getting on and off buses with kids and snowboarding stuff is not fun.

We have done catered chalets in the past and that has worked quite well but this season we have booked a self catered apartment. We're hoping that it will be easier having a bit more of our own space.

I wouldn't drive with my two as they'd get bored. We fly and that's been fine.
