Or like me do you put your kids in them but not wear one yourself. Since the news today I'm thinking of getting one.

Talking to some American cousins yesterday and basically everyone does in the USA

We all do, and hve done for several years - but ds1 races which means its compulsory, and a lot of our other skiing is in Canada where it's rare to see anyone not wearing a helmet. I've noticed that it's still a lot less common in Europe though.

We're off skiing next week to Austria. Does anyone know whether you can rent ski helmets along with the other ski equipment?

MrLSG · 23/03/2009 09:53

Yes you can rent helmets. If the kids are ski school you may find the school insist on helmets.

Some places do free helmets for children and just adults pay for hire

We bought some in Decathalon - 12 Euros. DS1 very happy. DH wears his but admits he looks like a gimp! I am going to get one next year - but might spend a little more so I don't look like a total idiot! Where we were you can hire them, but it was 3E /day, so cheaper to buy.

dh just got back and reported more helmets in evidence than previous years and this was not in a particularly touristy area.

I haven't up to now-neither have the DCs. I wouldn't get the DCs to wear one and not wear one myself. I always find it surprising that families cycle and only the DCs wear helmets. As soon as the children started to cycle I got us all helmets, so I would get all for skiing.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 13/04/2009 13:23

conisdered it this year and then didn't - but the DC have now insited that I wear one next year...

just back from Zermatt - wore my new helmet - very comfy - really no reason not to wear it. I was totting up the proportion of people wearing them all the time and I reckon it's at least 70 per cent now. I really think that the days of ski-ing with the wind in your hair are over.
