We trying to organise a ski trip. 8 adults ranging from very good to basic and 7 children aged 6,9,10,11,12,13. Don't think we would need childare for 6 year old. Would a catered chalet be best or hotel? Any help would be great.
Thanks Lx

Depends whether you're going for this year or next year - if this year you'll really have to see what there is. If next year I would see if you can find a chalet to accommodate you all - 15 should be a good number for one to yourselves. Montgenevre would be a good one as Sixer recommended - or consider La Rosiere or Serre Chevalier. Have a look at the WTSS website - that will give you an overview of the good points and bad points of major resorts. Things to consider - how good are you at skiing - if you're a mixed group you'll want a resort that copes for different abilities. Also consider whether you want night-life - though if you're all in a chalet you'll probably stay in other than a few vin chaud's. Based on our experience this year the prices in Italy were significantly cheaper than France for drinks, lunch etc. If your children are sensitive travellers give a thought to transfer times too - they can be up to 4 hours if you're not careful.

Don't discount Austria - cheaper than France and loads of resorts an hour's transfer from Salzburg.

Remember that untrendy less well known resorts will probably be considerably cheaper than your Val d'Iseres.

how about Risoul / Vars - not far from Montgenevre.

I grew up on the Swiss side of this! I might be biased but I remember it as beautiful.

I would go for a catered chalet especially with the exchange rate as it is. Better value for money. Morzine/Avoriaz is lovely. Short transfer time from Geneva. Fantastic, huge area of skiing, something for all levels. You can ski into Switzerland where you get more for your money than in France! If you are looking to go this year there are some good deals out there. A search on google should find you something.

Ste Foy is a great little French resort - perfect for families and big groups as its impossible to lose each other on the slopes! Very quiet slopes and much cheaper than neaby resorts of Tignes and Val. We've been going to Ste Foy with Premiere Neige for years - check out www.premiere-neige.com for more info.

Another vote for Austria

Another vote for Ste Foy - we've been going for years, it's a perfect family resort. We go to a friends' chalet, but Premiere Neige are great and you can use their childcare even if you don't book with them. The ski school is lovely too - DD had several private lessons in January (she was 4.25) and adored it. The more experienced skiers can easily get to Val d'isere, La Rosiere if they want, but Ste Foy has enough to keep most people going for a week unless you really are rabid off-piste/glacier fans!
