Anyone going to La Rosiere 21st March?

Planning a last minute trip to La Rosiere with DS who is 3.5 on the 21st March with Ski Beat. There aren't any other children in our chalet and only 1 18 month yr old booked into the creche so am hoping there may be some other mumsnetters there at the same time with similar aged kids. Also does anyone know if Les Eucherts is not as good as the main Esprit part of La Rosiere?

We are not going this week as have already had our holiday in La Rosiere this year

However I can assure you that there are lots of nice things about Les Eucharts (we stayed in cimes blanches appts near Ski Beat chalets)

There is a fast chair lift up to the runs and we never experienced queues. A nice restaurant called La Grange with cow shaped pizzas for the children! There is also a lovely pancake tea room. Also an ice rink and bowling alley.

You can ski over to the main part of la rosiere or take the bus, or there is a short walk through the woods to la rosiere that would take about 15 mins.

We visited the main part of la rosiere and didn't like it as much as it was bigger, more traffic, people. However there is a very easy drag lift in the main part of la rosiere so it is a good place to go in the afternoons if your DCs are too small to take the bigger drag or chair lift in les Eucharts.

Our 6 yr old DS did very well with the ESF ski school in Les Eucharts. 3 yr old fared less well as it was so cold and they seemed to spend a long time standing about in a 2 1/2 hr lesson. It will probably be warmer when you go.

If I were to go back to La Rosiere I would choose les eucharts area again.

Hope you have a great time!

Thanks a lot that's all helpful stuff. All booked now so just have to hope there will still be good snow.

Hi - just to add to this - we have stayed both in downtown (!) La Rosiere with Esprit (two years ago) , and Les Eucherts, this year with Ski Beat. Les Eucherts location MILES better, and in fact is now our benchmark. ( caveat, we are not into night life...). Just found the whole vibe better - chair much less crowded, and delivered us to a more useful starting point for going over to italy or up the mountain quieter, more relaxed, friendlier than LR. Ski Beat - excellent company to deal with - Ski Esprit were very good, but Ski Beat better. We even tried to book again for a second ski hol with Ski Beat @ half term, having snuck off in January , but te were fully booked...

We stayed in La Ros with skibeat last year with dd (then just 3) the only child in our chalet. The chalet consisted of DH, me and DD, my parents and then 3 young things () and a group of middle aged people who had never had children. It could have been a disaster but was fantastic ! The chalets are lovely, the creche is fantastic (lots of space and they did some fun stuff with the children) and the location is good.

IIRC, when I booked (latish) we were told the creche didn't have older children booked in but when we got there, there were 3 of them aged 3 so there's still time for them to fill it up.

Am due to have a baby around 13 March so we're not skiing this year but hope to go back to La Ros with Skibeat next year as we were so happy with the creche/chalets/location etc.

Mrsguy - I think we talked about skibeat/La Ros before - I'm glad the holiday was a success. I think Skibeat are great (we've been with them twice and think we will certainly use them whilst we still have young children).

Wheelybug - THANKS!!! Have lost track now, but but it WAS a MN recommendation, so must have been you - apologies
SB was excellent and am very grateful because I would not have picked up their name elsewhere. When we emailed them with queries we had a real named person (!) email us back, and the whole thing was a whole lot less stressful than other hols we have booked. Will deffo go with them again ( would have done a second time this year(!)) and just makes the whole thing an easy process when you are travelling with childre and need an easy time....

Wasn't fishing for thanks MrsG - not even sure it was me that suggested it in the first place or if I just added my thoughts !! But glad it worked out .

Thanks everyone that makes me much more confident about it all. Do you think it matters that there aren't any gondolas, as although we could take DS up on the chair how would we get him down??? On a toboggan? Or don't you bother take them up on a lift if they can't ski? BTW have credited MN with reccomendation for SkiBeat so perhaps you should get them to bung you a free hol or large discount Wheelybug! Also is it worth taking the Bugaboo with us? Always wanted to use it on snow since in pregnancy moment of lunacy thought it'd be a useful feature!!!

Mammarosa - we didn't take our DD (3.9) up on the Eucharts chairlift. It goes up quite a way and I don't think there are any pedestrian routes at the top. You could put your DS on a sledge and take him along the path through the woods (assuming it is still snow covered) to the main part of La Rosiere and either try out the little button lift with your DS on skis or there is a green run that people seemed to be taking children on sledges on.

We didn't take a pushchair for our DD and seemed to manage easily without. The Eucharts village is quite small so I think your DS would be ok walking...unless he needs to have a nap in it.

Wheelybug · 28/02/2009 09:49

You can go up the main chairs on foot and you can come down on them too. My parents came with us and only skied a little (first timers at 63) but did go up the lifts and got a lot of help so I think it would be fine with children. There are walking routes up the top - def. from the Les Eucherts down to a bar but don't know how easy it would be for a 3 year old.

As others have said, I don't think you'd need a buggy but if you want to to take it, you would be able to use it !
