Chamonix - Anyone been with a toddler?

We're here in lovely Chamonix for the rest of the week (until Sunday).

We've brought granny who is a non-skier, and is more than happy to share the care of our 17m DS. (Thank god) So this means we are on our own when entertaining him (no creches or the like)

After a brief trip into Chamonix yesterday, granny tells me there is absolutely nowhere to change a baby. Are we missing out on some fab baby friendly places here? Or is this as good as it will get.

So far, we've taken him by the nursery slope at Le Tour on his inflatable slegde, been on a train ride and mooched about Chamonix. We're intending to head up to Savoy today and perhaps visit the main swimming pool. Any tips from anyone who has visited already wuill be more than greatly recieved!

Been in summer , dd was a month or two older . No changer in MacDonalds or Sports centre or lift station ? Probably a flipdown mat(they might have a blue Koala logo) in the basin area of a toilet rather than a designated room.

I've just come back from Chamonix ( lovely 2 weeks with dd age 2 years).

I must admit - there isn't a huge amount of toddler things there. We spent a lot of time on sleigh in Le Tour. The swimming pool in Chamonix has got a lovely childrens pool (although we didn't go as we didn't bring our bathing costumes!!! - it was a skiing holiday!!)

On the way to le Tour there is a flat cross country skiing park which has a designated sleighing area for children.

There are a couple of parks in the town - but were completely covered by snow!

I wasn't skiing anyway as I was 28 weeks pregnant whilst there so dd and I just pottered around. Also my parents were out there too so they entertained her a lot - so she loved it.

I let her have a really late nap in the afternoon - so I could laze about reading a book and then she would join us for a meal in a restraunt in the evening. She would then go to bed late and have a lie in, in the morning (bliss at the time - but now doesn't want to revert back now she's home!!)

The last few days we popped some ski boots and ski's on her (she quite tall with big feet so hire shop had some in her size) and took her up some little runs and let her ski down between our legs which she absolutely loved. At the end of her second day - she would happily go up a drag lift between her dad's legs and keep her ski's straight whilst coming down.

In hindsight I should have tried her earlier but I thought she was too young. 2 weeks later she is still going an about 'ski, ski, ski'.

I didn't find any changing facilities anywhere. I would just sit on a loo and change her on my lap.

There are also some crche's in chamonix - but are ridiculously expensive. I think there are more child friendly things in Sallanches - you may have to google them - I think ther is a donkey sanctury there somewhere!

Chamonix is lovely but you have to bus to get around which is a bit of a nightmare with kids and a buggy. I have 2 kids and am pregnant so I've just come back from skiing in Morzine - A lovely chalet with a creche for my youngest one - an in house masseuse who was great for me and knew exactly how to massage a bump! Also ski to the door so I was able to join my partner easily for lunch. Lots of fun and we have re booked for next year!

Thanks for the tips! I have found out since that there is a toddler group that runs on a Thursday morning at the church in Chamonix - all very friendly English speaking mums apaprently. Also met a resident UK mum who tells me that there's a swimming group on a Saturday morning from 10 til 11 when the pool is 'heated up' especially for the babies! Thankfully we have bought swimsuits as we have a hot tub in the garden!!!!

We to have been on tho slopes of Le Tour with our invaluable inflatable sledge, also the nursery slopes of Chosalets were brilliant with a sledge, it also had a little cafe there too!!

We did see a tiny little boy on skis, his mum (a ski instructor!) told me that he was just 20 months!!!!!! Eeeek, the thought of putting my 17 month old on skis fills me with dread, (Although i'm sure i'll feel the same what ever age he starts!)
