Bumping for you.

I hope you get some replies here soon. In the meantime you could try leaving a message on a forum called Snowheads. It is a site specifically for skiing so there are more people who have been to the less well known resorts. Hopefully you would get some advice on driving to PSV there.

We only did the transfer from Turin airport on a coach. It was absolutely fine. Even though they'd had about 20cm of snow (1st week of Jan this year). Hope this helps!

Hi Just posted on the other thread.

Yes, we drive to the area frequently as we have a house about 20 mins away.

The drive with children is probably best split over 2 days unless you get overnight ferry. It is about 8 hours from Le Havre, 9 from Calais.

See what Sat Nav suggests, but probably all the way to Grenoble then Col de Lauteret - can be dodgy in the winter. It is usually open, but you should take chains just in case. We very nearly needed them 3 weeks ago. Alternatively, go to Gap from Grenoble then up the valley towards Briancon - Puy is on the left!

I will check later, so do ask any other q's.

we love the area and will be back 14-22 March. Definitely going to give Puy a go.

Thanks for posts!
We have booked and are going to Puy on 8th March.
We will Stop half way and stay overnight could you send me details of the B&B you suggested please.
I dont travel very well and am nervous about the drive through the mountains. I have been looking at "snowheads" formum and had some excellent feedback on the roads to Puy.
The Col du Lauteret worries me! We will be driving Range Rover and have snow chains so
I shouldnt be too worried, but as I said I just dont like driving in mountains, how bad it is??

Hi Els

www.aupredupoirier.com/

Is the B&B. We have stayed there 3 x and they have 2 sep but interconnected rooms, a fab breakfast and good home cooked 4 course dinner (served sep for DCs) all for 96 Euro.

It is about 10 mins from the Avallon turn (which does mean going via Paris as it is a bit off from the Calais / Reims/ Lyon route).

We did the Col on the way back this time and it was a bit dodgy. We had chains, but didn't put them on, although we took it very slowly. We probably should have done...but it was quiet and we were fine.

If I was you I would check the reports - it it has snowed recently it might be best avoided, but will be fine if you have chains (and know how to use them).

It is a beautiful road - well the bit from the top to Briancon is fab. Not so keen on the Grenoble to top bit - it is dark and cold and at the bottom of not v attractive valley.

It is a major route, so don't worry about "dodgy mountain passes" and big drops. I do get the heeby jeebies badly (Col de Galibier for eg), but not on this one.

hope you have a fab time in Puy! Save some snow for us!
