My little ones are 5 months and 2 years so will be in creche. I am still up three hourly with little one so will I be too tired or will the bright sunshine (hopefully) and exercise make me feel Fab?? I really can't decide so help me make my mind up please.

i think this is a bit too young personally. I mean you might really enjoy it i suppose, certainly the clean air, exercise and sunshine may help. but i wouldn't. plan to go next winter when ds nearly 5 fr first ski-ing lessons, but i'll stay with baby. dh is the skier anyway.

I have been skiing with DS1 when he was 6 months (but sleeping through the night - sorry!). We went to Zermatt where there is a fantastic creche (Kinder Paradies). DS1 has been back to that creche three times since so it must be good. Before he was the age he could ski himself we also stayed with Ski Cuisine in Meribel which is a chalet company with great nannies which come to the Chalet. That worked well as you didn't have to drop the children off, and the nannies we had there (twice) were both fantastic and made sure the children had lots of fresh air, provided toys etc.

Since having DS2 we have been skiing when he was 4 months, and when he was 13 months, to St Christophe in Austria where they have very good nannies and a creche for older ones.

This year we are going to Serfauss Fiss Ladis in Austria which advertises itself as being very family friendly but haven't been yet so can't comment.

The only problem we have had is altitude sickness for first day in Zermatt with DS1 when he was 6 months. This is apparently a common problem under a certain age so worth bearing in mind as really not nice for the little ones to experience and is the reason we didn't take DS2 there at such a young age.

I think the fresh air and family time, going swimming etc can be good for the children but obviously good childcare is the most important thing.

Hi
I live in Austria (in a ski resort) and have a 7 month old and 2 older boys. I am still up in the night too but find that a morning skiing is great, like you say the sunshine helps, but I couldn't do a whole day, every day.The benefits of living here is that I can just pop out for a few hours, when you've spent a lot of money to come on holiday it's different.

I went when DD was just over 2 and DS was 4 months. Truthfully I was knackered. I really enjoyed the skiing, but like Deb said I could only do a few hours before collapsing.

There was of course no apres ski. But those moments on the slopes when the sun is shining, the air is fresh and the view is awesome were amazing.

To agree also with abear, do not go to a high resort if you can help it. DS got quite sick a few years ago with altitude sickness. Some little ones really cannot handle the altitude.

don't mean to worry you, but read an article last night about rate of collisions on the sloped this year, very high and high fatalities. I think if you are tired at all this might be dangerous - at the very least wear a helmet, but apparently slopes very fast because of temperatures and very crowded.

Oh thank you all for your replies, I am beginning to think that it might not be the best idea to go this year, I am not the most confident skier at the best of times and I am sure that being tired will not improve that at all !! Will now need to break it to Dp who loves it, it's his favourite type of holiday oh well. Thank you all again.
