£100 per head for dinner

WTF were they eating at that price???? I need to know.......just to avoid it .

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/01/2009 16:04

Daisy - I've just got back from La Plagne and dinner on chalet night off was £47 for 3 of us. That was 3 pizzas and 3 drinks, so yes more expensive than the UK but not as bad as wherever your friend was eating.

You could easily have a nice lunch such as tartiflette, lasagne or pizza for 11 or 12 euros, plus another 3 euros for a drink.

Our friends were staying i nthe Esprit chalets at Peisey (we went there last year) and we went over the Vanoise express and met up with them. We had lunch their side one day and it was the same prices as La Plagne.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/01/2009 16:05

Oh and other people in the chalet made sandwiches up at breakfast from the crossiants and cheese and ham to have at lunch ratehr than buying lunch.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 24/01/2009 16:57

Phew! thanks for that Stripey. Was rather concerned.

Yum! Tartiflette . I know its got a gazillion calories and is the kind of thing that once you've eaten it you wonder why but tis such good skiing fodder .

Wish I had the nerve to do the making lunch from the breakfast buffet thing. DH would go ballistic at me though!

whippet · 24/01/2009 17:45

Stripey - I wish people wouldn't do that though - use the breakfast baguettes / croissants to take as lunch.

Last year with Esprit we had some mornings when the kids weren't in ski lessons, but were skiing with us, so we decided to have a later breakfast (the morning rush is a bit of a zoo in most chalets!). When we came for our breakfast (only about 15 mins later than the first people)here was nothing left except cereal. The chalet staff were apologetic and rushed out to buy a few extra croissants, but they mentioned that they are on a REALLY tight budget, and this meant that they would have to cut back elsewhere during the week e.g. at evening meals.

So it's false economy really, AND pretty unfair on the guests who get to breakfast later than you!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/01/2009 19:00

Whippet - I hadn't reall ythought about it to be honest. But I swear I didn't do it - I like my tartiflette too much!

Though you'd have thought it would have been canceleld out by people like me and DH and DD who didn't have a single crossiant all week. I know Esprit are on tight budgets but when you pay so much for whats quite an expensive holiday you'd have thought they'd be able to budget for the odd extra croissant without having to cut back on the evening meals.

whippet · 24/01/2009 19:46

Sorry Stripey! I wasn't accusing you... just repeating what I was told

slalomsuki · 26/01/2009 15:44

Toomanyprojects

If you look at the webcams for La Ros and pick the second one down and then scroll along to the end it spins round to give a good view of the Schatzi and the ski school and nursery slopes.

We stayed in room 2 but I won't tell you which bed i slept in....in may put you off!!!

Take the DS for the kids in the evening and some parents took the DVD player but ours did without.

DaisyFitz · 26/01/2009 22:32

aaarrrgghhhhh... it looks like Esprit have no more Man-Chamb flights available adn I cant' bring myself to take DH let alone a 9 month old on a 3hr transfer!
Have requested an option with Ski Beat instead. Room will be smaller, with no hottub but its in Peisey and is a good price.
thought it was all looking too good to be true!

CaurnieBred · 27/01/2009 07:23

We stayed with SkiBeat last year in Peisey - in the Bayona. We had a fab time. It is right across the road from the lift and only a 2 minute walk to the creche.

happywomble · 27/01/2009 11:46

If anyone is going to La Rosiere check the prices before you buy anything in the cafe at the bottom of the main piste..it is opposite Esprits Chalet Schatzi I think. We paid 3 Euros for a normal fruit yoghurt for our daughter. (ie. £3!).

We went out for a fondue one evening in La Grange, Les Eucharts and the basic cheese fondue was £17 each..thought this was a bit steep too.

sunshineandsnowflakes · 28/01/2009 10:08

Whippet and toomany-the snow report looks great in La Ros!.

Are you all packed whippet?

sunshineandsnowflakes · 30/01/2009 09:38

Oops-whippet, just realised you are going on 29th March NOT Feb! Bit too early to be packed!!
