How useful would a 4-wheeled pushchair be in a ski resort

Pretty much self-explanatory. I am going skiing and has a 4mo. I don't have a 3-wheeler and I was wondering how useful would my 4-wheeler be a ski resort. It is a Bugaboo Bee so is meant for use in cities...

Thin wheels and small wheels ..mmmm not that good unless snow is compacted but your 4mth is probably quite light so you might be ok . In most resorts they tend to keep the streets fairly clean so you might be ok . Could you not maybe swap your bee with a friend for a week - or maybe ask your hotel ( if staying in one) if they know where you could beg / borrow one - I have heard of people doing this !

OneLieIn · 13/01/2009 20:30

It depends. In most resorts it should be fine as they clear pavements etc. However, if you are going up the mountain, you might want a sling with you.

OneLieIn · 13/01/2009 20:31

If you are going with a company that does childcare, they may be able to offer you one. Just a thought.

We took ours primarily for the airport, but was very useful in resort too, although it hadn't snowed for 10 days and the paths were either cleared or frozen. We had a sling with us too,

A · 13/01/2009 20:56

I meant to say several hire shops hired 3 wheelers in resort too.

spicemonster · 13/01/2009 20:58

I took my 4 wheeler pushchair and it was fine in the resort (cleared pavements) and a backpack for going up the mountain (mine was a year and too big for me to carry in a sling)

Where are you going? A pushchair would be useless in Avoriaz for example ...

Hi, thanks for your replies. I am going to St Anton. Swapping the pushchair with a friend for a week is a good idea. Has any of you been there? My LO is on Cow and Gate twice a day(and breastfed for remaining feeds). I hope they sell Cow and Gate there...

It does depend on where you are going but having just been ski-ing I have to say that our very cheap buggy was an absolute godsend. At the airport (Chambery)there are no trolleys so if DC2 had been able to run around it would have been a nightmare. As it stood my DD could push him whilst we carried the bags. In the resort (granted the roads were pretty much clear) it was great to take him down to creche whilst transporting the skis and poles in the back!

spicemonster · 13/01/2009 21:31

Nooo - take it with you. There is no way you'll get Cow & Gate there. I don't think I've been to St Anton. Will have a think ...

You could always call the place you're staying and ask them?

spicemonster · 13/01/2009 21:32

Sorry - that should be 'very unlikely' rather than no way. In my experience, it's very hard to get the same kind of formula in Europe. They might trade under a different name but I'd say safer not to make assumptions - I'd check

LIZS · 14/01/2009 08:37

C and G isn't sold in Europe. Equivalent of Aptamil, Hipp and Nestle is plus a few others. St Anton has a main street which will be cleared but is cobbled iirc so Bee probably not the best idea! You shodul eb able ot hire a all terrain pushchair, back carrier or sledge for snowier walks but take a footmuff

hjk · 14/01/2009 12:11

Thanks, Lizs. Do you mean I shall hire a pushchair there or here in UK? Is it easy to hire one there or do I need to prebook? If so, do you have the contact details of the shop? ?Thanks so much!

i remember seeing a push chair with skis on.

does anyone know what i am talking about?

i asumed it was something you bought and clipped over the wheels - was a fleeting glance and i thought "nifty!"

hopelesshousewife · 14/01/2009 12:53

When we went, we used a nanny agency and they came with little ski pushchairs - they were great! We then hired one from the ski shops, DD loved it!

We were in Morzine, and don't think a normal pushchair would have been much use tbh.

LIZS · 14/01/2009 16:54

You can usually hire there but supply may be limited - try emailling the local Intersport

Hi!

We are off to Verbier with a 12month old. We are staying in a chalet.(chalet berbou)
I have never been to Verbier before, does anyone have any advice at all? No idea what we will need really, having only been skiing once before - minus baby..
Not sure whether to take a pushchair, or try and hire one out there, or get one of those backpacks..
Any advice would be welcomed!
Going to try and get her an all in one snow suit, i hear H&M are good and well priced.
Got her some waterproof boots (shes just started walking)
The in laws are coming along and not skiing so we have babysitters (yay!)
Is there much to do there?

Thanks
