My dh fancies going on a ski holiday early next year we have never been skiing before are we wise? Our kids are 9 and 7. Wouldn't have a clue where to start looking or what to take into account ie/having never been skiing, where to go, staying in hotels or chalets etc etc. Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance.

I would n't suggest Chamonix itself to beginners tbh , agree pistes are too spread out away from the town to be easily accessible. However it has a lot of facilities for non skiing time and a short and easy transfer.

Go. You and your family will love it. We are experienced winter holiday people, it's our main holiday. 2 ds aged nearly 5 and 7, we've had them on the snow for the last 2years. We've done full seasons pre-children all over Europe and since have discovered a little resort 45mins from Turin, Italy. Try Go-Montgenevre. We don't do big nights out, far too tired, however we do book beautiful Chalets with open fires, very close to the slopes. If you can find friends to share you'll be looking at approx £100-£150 per head, then flights, car hire etc on top. The last couple of years we've gone mid to late march as it's warmer by day(If it's not dumping down!)for the DC. We've had plenty of snow. Last year we left with over a foot of snow on the car over night. You'll love it. Although Dp and I are boarders, we want the DC to be able to ski to a good level first. (For balance). This year we will hire a board for our eldest, maybe a couple of afternoons, to see if he likes it. Skiing is def easier to learn then boarding. However if it's boarding you want to do be prepared to HURT for at least the first 3 days. It'll be knees, bums, upper arms and tummy.
