Skiing in Norway

Has anyone skied in Norway in early April? Looking at Geilo or Trysil but happy to go with recommendation. What are snow conditions like?
Will be going with two kids who are pretty much novices, and adults who can ski. Both resorts are badged as good for families, but I'm just a bit worried about going so late in the season, so hoping someone can reassure me before i book.

April is usually the best month for skiing! I would book it 🙂

I did this comparison via chat as was weighing up the same approach. I wanted to try Norway as the kids didn’t love the ESF style ski instructors we’d had in France and wanted something a bit gentler.

Verdict
• Go to Trysil if: You want a "proper" ski resort experience where the kids can walk out the door and onto a lift, and you need enough terrain to keep everyone busy for a full week.
• Go to Geilo if: You want a more relaxed, "winter wonderland" holiday where the skiing is just one part of the adventure, and you value a scenic, stress-free train journey over a coach transfer.

Skiing in Norway is very different from skiing in the French and Austrian Alps. It is particularly good for families and beginners who want to experience the snow and for whom apres ski and extensive pistes and ski areas are less important than good snow conditions, friendly and pupil-focussed teaching and a relaxed atmosphere.

I've been several times, and while Norway can be too cold in December and January - think minus 20 deg and colder - in April the conditions and the weather are far friendlier.
