Crèche - packing

Hi all,

I have a 5yo and 3yo going into a crèche & they’ll be taken out for a ski lesson each morning. I have 2 sets of mittens for each of them, as I understand they’re easy to lose and the kiddos would be miserable if they got wet. - do I need to double up on anything else? 🫣

I also have 19mo twins also going into the crèche - I presume they’re less likely to lose mittens etc as they’re staying at the crèche. Do I need “extras” for anything for this age group? Do they need ski socks or will normal socks in their snow boots be ok? I can’t imagine they’ll be out in the snow garden for long?

With 4 children I’m trying not to over-buy and over-pack 🤪

THANK YOU

I’d pack a minimum of one pair of mittens per child per day. If they get cold or wet they can swap to another pair. Get them practicing beforehand how to put them on and find ones that go on and off with ease. Ditto lots of pair la of thermals. I’d get fluffy socks for the 19m that can be worn as ski socks or in bed.

You absolutely don’t need multiple pairs of mittens. Get a length of cord and thread it through the arms of their coat/snowsuit and attach to the mittens! If they are proper waterproof ones at that age they are unlikely to get wet, and if they are damp from playing in the snow can be dried overnight.

In my experience those staying in crèche really only need normal clothes, set per day plus some spares, snow boots/tick socks if walking, hat/gloves/mittens, a bag for a change of clothes plus slippers for indoors. Plus nappies/wipes etc if not provided.
If skiing, I find they tend to spend the crèche./kids club time in their thick socks and thermals, maybe fleece layer. So depending how messy they are 3-4 sets of these. We have 3 sets of thermals, clean socks for each day and a couple of fleeces, plus outer ski layer, goggles, gloves, snood and hat. I put a small snack, like a freddo or flapjack bar in their pocket for the slopes too. We self cater, so she tends to stay in thermals until showered for bed in the evenings, really only need normal clothes for travel, odd evening out.

We only have one pair of gloves/mittens per child but they’re attached to a cord that goes through their sleeves so they can’t lose them. I used to sew them on to the cord but you can buy them on amazon now with clips. They’re called mitten clips I think x

Agree on the mitten clips/string. I used to take a spare pair that ideally would fit both kids in case of a loss but it never happened. The only person who ever lost a glove was me, loading my skis into the shuttle van to the restaurant 😂

Decathlon have these brilliant ski tights link which I would recommend for any child who’s going to be skiing or out in the snow a fair bit.

in terms of doubling up on stuff. Maybe take a spare pair of kids’ sunglasses as they can get broken or lost easily. And also snoods/buffs (cheap ones available from decathlon) as these get lost easily.
