Christmas 2026 family ski trip recommendations

Planning a big birthday celebration next Christmas. Not sure how many of us there will be. Could be just 4 of us. More likely 12, but could be as many as 20

lets say 6 adults and 6 teens / tweens. Intermediate to advanced skiers.

3-4 families. we have all skied together before. Mostly self catering.

where would you go? Who would you book with? Have you done anything similar yourself? Any tips or recommendations?

You need to go high for Christmas, heaps of the resorts have had no snow this year, personally I’d do La Plagne, massive ski area, has a really nice “vibe” to it (not too French and serious…) it’s one of my favourite resorts

Thanks @Lastqueenofscotland2

does it have a good vibe?
or is it quite a modern place, more like VT?

Just been in Alpe d’Huez for second Christmas in three years - really enjoy it. I like that there is a range of skiing - lovely food options, other stuff to do for tweens - sports centre, town pool, ice skating. We’ve done cheap self catering and high end hotel - both were great! Easy to get to from Grenoble airport too.

I like the range of slopes, the green area and the fun slopes are actually more like
blue runs and then higher up you have some challenging blues, reds etc. I’m more a fun time skier looking for Mountain View’s these days whereas husband and child like the challenges! Beautiful stop called Le Spot - crepes, espresso and stunning views. Great restaurants if you like French food and wine - we do! Sports centre with a kind of climbing soft play for older kids, crazy golf, table tennis plus town pool and ice skating. Really nice bar called Sporting and good supermarkets. Cheaper end we did the Pierre Vacances apartments in Les Bergers - hotel wise Grand Rousses - much most costly! I did it myself - easy jet flights to Grenoble, coach transfers with Ben’s Bus and book direct with accommodation. I was very anti France for years for skiing but now like the ease of arranging myself and the food and drink keeps me going back!!

I would also recommend Alpe d'huez., been twice.

We're currently in Les Deux alpes and whilst I prefer the town the lift situation is a real.hassle.

I'll look at la plagne for next year.

Where would you recommend staying in AdH? And did you book direct or via which agent?
