Cervinia recommendations please

Considering Cervinia next year. Dh skis, I don’t. We want to stay somewhere comfortable, ideally ski in/out for dh. Don’t want half board as we enjoy eating out. Ideally I like to go off and explore, but other than the cable car over to Zermatt I don’t think Milan or Turin are close enough for day trips. Would welcome hotel recommendations for Cervinia or alternatively other Italian resorts.

You can’t do ski in/ski out if you’re not skiing. I mean…you can. But pointless for you. Staying in a resort with easy access to slopes for him and activities for you is better. Cervinia is beautiful and we often ski to Zermatt (beautiful town with plenty to do). You can go via cables cars on foot to Zermatt, but it’s not something you can do everyday as once youve done it, its done. You can also ski from Cervinia to Valtournanche. I’d stay in Zermatt loads to do for you and loads of non-skiers and you can get the train together up for lunch on the mountain. But it’s more expensive that Cervinia.

Thank you. Where have you stayed in Cervinia and is there anywhere in particular you’d recommend? I think distanced there are all pretty short.

Hopeful bumping, in case anyone has hotel recommendations? Or hotels in Cervinia they absolutely would not recommend?

We always Airbnb so no hotel experience but I did once fall and hurt my arm on the second day of a trip so have been a non-skier and Cervinia wouldn’t be my first choice of resort. Even though I was meeting my family on the mountain most days, it wasn’t very entertaining. There’s some snow shoeing and some of the hotels have spas. The lift to Zermatt is rather expensive so you’re unlikely to do it more than once. We go every year so haven’t tried many other places but have stayed in Aosta where there are Roman ruins and you could get to Courmayeur and do the Skyway and there are spas in the valley. I also like Bormio which has lovely spas but the ski area isn’t huge. It also depends when in the season and whether you’d be able to walk at valley level in many places.

Bit of a curveball but if you can negotiate out of the ski in/ski out how about Pila? You could either stay in Pila and you can get the gondola down to Aosta which is a gorgeous old Roman town or if you like eating out then stay in Aosta and they can get the gondola up to ski. It’s a long gondola and I know that puts some people off but could be an option?

Thank you @angelcake20 and @massistar youve been very helpful - now looking at Acosta which sounds much more appealing

Ah great. My son did 2 seasons in Pila. It’s a great little resort. It’s not huge but you’ve got the option to ski in one of the other Val d’Aosta ski areas like La Thuile, Courmayeur or Gressoney to mix it up a bit.

I think staying in Aosta, hopefully walking distance from the gondola, and hiring a car so we can explore a bit looks like a great plan. Dh can have days skiing in other resorts if he wants. We like eating out so I think staying in Pila would be less enjoyable. It looks beautiful.
