I've done a search but looking for recent recommendations (and hoping that some of you might be able to help me with finding something that ticks the boxes below).

Family of four with two kids who will be 5 and 7. Looking to take the kids skiing for the first time Easter 2026. I've not skiied before either but frankly it's a holiday for the kids more than me. We will be flying out from Heathrow or Gatwick but I'm not adverse to getting trains (we don't have a car so driving is out of the option).

Based on my research, I'd like to find something kid / family friendly:

  • Under a 2 hour transfer from airport to ski slopes
  • Walking distance to ski school/slopes - ideally walking distance to boot room, which would then be very close by to ski school/slopes
  • Has a half board option (we are unlikely to self cater)
  • Kid friendly slopes, good ski school options
  • Indoor swimming pool would be a bonus
  • Friendly on the wallet (feels like an oxymoron when it comes to skiing but basically - I'm not looking for anything fancy)

Would love your ideas of where you've been to and enjoyed and who you've booked with. I never grew up skiing so this is brand new territory and feeling overwhemled by it all.

You could start by looking at this current thread > To be so confused about how to book a ski holiday | Mumsnet

Easter is a great time to ski as days are longer than at Christmas or February half-term, but you need to pick the right resort to ensure that there is snow. The exact dates are also important as a week can make a lot if difference to conditions in the spring - Easter is relatively early in 2026, so what are your exact dates?

Never been on one. Have two young kids and a partner. I want to self cater. How do I get to ski slopes every day? Where do I hire ski equipment from?...

I like skiing at Easter, and found it was good for kids not getting too cold. Some French resorts are closing earlier st Easter than traditionally so check the resort will be (fully) open before deciding where you want to go.

We usually fly to Marseilles and get a hire car to places like Les Orres, Risoul, Puy St Vincent. All about 2.5 hours so a bit far. But they are great places to learn to ski.

I'm looking for similar. These responses are a really helpful start. Thank you

😕 AI doesn't know that both Söll and Kranjska Gora are too low to be snowsure at Easter, nor that the lifts at Söll are not convenient for beginners, so not a good option for families with children.

A better option would be Hinterglemm in Austria, where the beginner lifts are directly behind the main hotels in the centre of the village and where there is good snow-making and plenty of north-facing slopes which don't melt as fast as the low, south-facing slopes in some other resorts.

Alternatively, for Easter it's worth looking at Scandinavia - Hemsedal, Trysil, Geilo, Are etc. Snow is guaranteed, Scandinavia is very family-friendly and since families probably don't need nightlife and cheap booze, these relatively quiet resorts are ideal. Look at the SkiStar website for details.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the intel. I’ll look into all the suggestions.

The "where-to-ski" website above is very limited - so limited as to be useless.

For example, a search for resorts in Austria gives just 3 resorts, Kitzbühel, Saalbach and St Anton, which are 3 of the most expensive in Austria. In fact, a search for Austrian resorts using any criteria only gives these 3 options, ignoring the other 440 resorts in the country.
