Help in finding a resort

I want to go skiing for around four days in mid march with my dd 20. We like blues and greens dd would like nice apres ski. I'm also inviting my niece who has recently lost her Dad in traumatic circumstances. She is a non skier but might try. She's not in the best way understandably and I think the mountains might help her get away from it all. I basically need a resort that suits non skier, easy runs for us, perhaps spa/pool nearby not ridiculously expensive oh and pretty. Thanks so much I know I'm asking a lot.

How about Les Gets? It’s been a while since I was there but I recall some easier skiing for you and DD, and the town itself is quite charming for your niece and has good beginner slopes if she decides to have a go herself.

Les Gets is lovely, but it is low altitude and could be quite slushy mid March, and there is no spa there. There is Aquariaz up in Avoriaz, but although that is on the same lift pass it might as well be on another planet to get to! On the plus side it is very easy to get to for a short trip.

Zell am Zee has lovely skiing, lots of little mountains huts, good apres in town, lots for a non skier, and there is a spa nearby (a bus/taxi ride away.) Not too far from Munich airport for cheap flights, even better if you can get to Salzburg. You have Kaprun close by with glacier if you get warm weather.

Tbh you could probably go a lot of places at this time of year and have a nice time though. We used to go as a group 3rd week in March. It is often a quieter week but there are bands playing in Austrian resorts as the sun is finally beginning to shine with some warmth and it’s lovely to sit outside. I’ve been to Zell am Zee, Konigsleiten, Les Gets, Champery, Ellmau, Soldeu, Pamporovo and Saalbach that time of year. Only one I wouldn’t return to would be Pamporovo.

I've never been but if you are looking for pretty and shallow slopes and lots to do that's not skiing -what about Norway?

turtletum · 21/01/2025 15:00

I'd say Austria would be a good place to start. Typically, pretty villages, jolly apres, hotels with spa/pools that can be flexible for short breaks. Zell am See is a good suggestion. Or try Saalbach (or leogang). Or Alpbach, Seefeld, St Johann in Tirol.

Sorry, OP, no help here, but I keep misreading your title in ‘Active’ as ‘Help in finding an escort’.😳

If you take self catered accommodation you will keep costs down, a resort like Verbier in Switzerland is picturesque, high altitude so snow sure, has great skiing and apres ski and just 2 hours transfer from Geneva airport - but that all comes at a price. A one bedroom property with a sofa bed for 4 nights will cost around 1200-1500chf (exchange rate is approx 1.11chf to 1GBP) It will be cheaper if you come Sunday to Wednesday or just not at the weekend.
There are cheaper options for sure, but Verbier always delivers.

OP: ‘…not ridiculously expensive.’ Verbier? 😱🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I agree, it’s fab. But so are Zermatt, St Moritz, Courcheval and Cortina. All great places if you don’t ski and would rather go shopping (and have a few £K to splash on fur coats and champagne.) Poster suggesting ‘Norway,’ (nowhere specific, just the whole country,) you’ve never been to Norway. 🤨 If you want beautiful mountain views and cute alpine villages, here is not the place. (Great for bleak open hillsides and huddling inside while the blizzard outside blows itself out though.) Also, not easy to get to by any route. Yes, I include the whole of Norway in that statement.

Thank you all. The date has changed so early March was recommended les gets and Samoens. I love Courchevel 1650 is my budget these days. I've been to les gets but as a family not sure if it's buzzy enough mind you not sure what my niece can cope with right now trying to tick a few boxes a fairly short transfer is good as only planning on 3 days 4 nights now. Again huge thanks

Sorry didn't see you changed to early March.

Do check out local school holidays to avoid chaos.

Per above message we flew to verona and hired a car.
