Has anyone ever skied in the Serre-Chevalier ski area?

We’re coming back to England for Christmas next year and are trying to tack on a few days skiing. My husband is a new skier and my kids are still little. Just looking for some nice runs, nice accommodation and some family time.
I have been to Briancon before although only in the summer.
Has anyone any thoughts on or experience here?

Yep it's nice and open and sunny, good for kids. Not super high so slight gamble on snow conditions at Christmas.

@TheSnowQueen thank you. How is the town for restaurants or other places to eat? Do you know if there is a rink or pool/spa?

Quiet, family friendly vibe. Nice places to eat. Don't think there's a public pool but have very vague memories of a rink.

Plenty of pools apparently and a rink. A French friend's parents had an apartment there, not so many Brits as other big French resorts. Slightly hairy drive over the mountains from Turin but the Italians have built some impressive tunnels.

There's a public pool/spa with a large outdoor area. I don't remember is bring as "buzzy" as say Morzine or Chamonix, but I didn't have dc then, and that may actually be just right for a trip with dc.

Serve Cher is actually serves by several villages so make sure info is for the one you are staying in. Briancon is the biggest town but is a very long lift ride up and l’m not sure how much beginners stuff there is at the top as I’ve never used it I think the one with the hot baths is called Bride les Bain but I’m away at the moment so can’t check Actually a glacial valley so runs down to villages are v steep so beginners would come down in lift. Most ski schools start at the top of the lifts Have a good look at some piste maps to see which village has the best beginners runs

It’s Monetier Les Bains.

Briançon old town is lovely and characterful, bottom of the hill, less so. Skiing is extensive - I was there over new year. Lots to do for all levels. If the snow is packed do get the gondola down. I’m a good skier and went flying on the Luc Alphand (down to chantermerle). Suggest staying there or higher up the valley.

rookiemere · 12/01/2025 17:12

Monetier les bains is a lovely quaint village with thermal baths, but the skiing at that part is not ideal for beginners. Chantermerle would be better I think.
Although it's called one resort you couldn't really stay in one village and get to another for ski lessons in the morning.

sighsloudly · 12/01/2025 17:53

I am a beginner and preferred montgenevre which is close by. Chantermerle was also good but you had to take the gondola up and at some parts of the year the gondola down.

Thank you all. I’ll keep looking a do a bit more research on the different villages.
There will be 2 families myself, husband and our small kids and my friend, her husband and her pre teen boys.
